Length of time to cleanup spyware

I help friends, neighbors, and family members cleanup their pcs & learn how to maintain the pcs themselves. My first go-round with Disk Clean, SpyBot, a2, Mcafee, etc. takes me hours. And some error messages must be fixed before continuing with SpyBot, for example. A company can send a tech out to do the same thing, he says, in 2 hours or less. Obviously he has more sophisicated hardware & software, but isn't there a way I can help my friends for free without spending all day doing what the tech says he does in 2 hours?
