Here's the second tutorial presenting additional common tips and tricks in LaTeX and LyX, focusing on typical styling and formatting problems that a user may encounter when migrating from an office suite, including working with LaTeX Preamble, title fonts, date and author placement, document classes, unneeded layout elements, page-spanning images in multiple-column documents, definite image placement, ragged and justified document bottoms, table and figure numbering reset, tracking changes, Feynman diagrams, and more.

For diagrams with LaTeX I prefer LaTeXDraw:

It's a simple drawing program that transforms your drawings and diagrams into LaTeX code, which you can then paste directly into your LaTeX document. I assume it would work with LyX or any other LaTeX editor, although I've only used it with BakoMa TeX.
