Improvements made to version 7.6.7600.256 of the Windows Update Agent

• Hardened Windows Update infrastructure so that the Windows Update client will only trust files signed by a new certificate that is used solely to protect updates to the Windows Update client.
• Strengthened the communication channel used by Windows Update Client to protect it in a similar way.

if you read MS KB article 946928 recently:

it says the following:

"There is no standalone installer of the latest version of the Windows Update Agent (7.6.7600.256). The following are instructions on how to obtain version 7.4.7600.226 of the Windows Update Agent."

and it looks like anyone who visits the Windows Update site or turn on Automatic Updates recently will NOT receive Windows Update Agent version 7.6.7600.256. Microsoft seems to have either temporarily stopped offering 7.6.7600.256 of the Windows Update Agent (WUA) or has not offered it worldwide yet. I visited the Windows Update site a few hours ago on my XP, Vista and Seven computer and the site did NOT update Windows Update Agent to the latest version. I'm still using v7.4.7600.226 on my XP and Vista computers and v7.5.7601.17514 of WUA on my Windows 7 machine.
