Yup. Update is available thru S&D online updater. All back to normal.

But why did we have to go thru this in the first place? Churlish? What's that? Free software needs not quality assurance?

I wanted to take a moment to thank you folks for setting me on the right track and helping me in overcoming and correcting this annoying problem. As a computer user and one who is lacking "techno savvy" you folks are my gurus.

Once again, I am very appreciative for this service and your help in overcoming this annoyance.

    Warmly,
    Herb

I also wanted to add the following comment. The information and fix you folks have discussed has also solved a similar glitch I was having with the Google Earth program.

Two birds (programs) solved with one piece of valuable information.

    Once again, thank y'all.

    Warmly,
    Herb

It seems that problem is only with firefox, right? Because I haven´t had any problems with either program (SpywareBlaster, SpyBot) so far.

If you don't have Firefox installed, then the condition that was causing the program error should not have happened on your PC. Everything would have run fine.

    HI
    I uninstalled Spywareblaster and rebooted
when I reinstalled I enabled all but Firefox
When I tried to enable firefox I got the access error
when I reloaded spywareblaster firefox was not enabled but other two work fine
I then updated to May definitions that went ok also
I'll try the SBS&d update later
I take it that this is a program update and not something that is done as a regular definitions update

Thanks all for a great series of posts

I already had firefox 2.0.0.14 so that was not the fix for me
spybot shows latest definitions- I have 4-30-08 and build 1.5.1.15
    is there anything later?

I see from earlier in this thread that there is a 1.5.2 I'll track it down
wants me to reboot - later for that
I rebooted after spybot program update to 1.5.2+
ran the spybot updater and it reloaded everything since 1.5.2 released
did immunize- found out that immunity was already current
went to spywareblaster and enabled protection for firefox
    ran updater- current there also

    lesson learned
spybot manual updater (l run it every Wednesday) does NOT notify of new program changes
    All is well
