    Hello
if i use the interactive firewall setting some of my programs freeze when i attempt to update their definitions.
    ie superantispyware etc.
these were ok before,my being asked by eset what to do when i started the update process.
i have to use automatic firewall for them to work.
    any ideas?
    regards
    Steven

Try switching to learning mode for a while so that rules are created automatically as necessary.

    hello marcos
    thank you for your reply.
prior to the latest eset version update,i could use interactive mode with all my programs.
that way when i started definition updates the eset green box would appear asking me to accept or deny/permanently7 or temporary allow.
    now they freeze.
i like having eset ask me in case there is a program phoning home,
that i am not aware of.
    thank you
    regards
    Steven

    sorry Marcos
    i forgot to add .
if i try to update some of these programs ,they freeze,so i close them.
when i try again a message states they are already running.
i cant kill the program process in taskmanager either.
i have to reboot my pc.
    regards
    Steven

What oper. system do you use? Could you make sure that egui.exe is actually running when the problem occurs? If so, tick the "Show processes from all users" check box in the task manager and check if only one instance of egui.exe is running.

    hello Marcos
there are two egui.exe running when i have the problem.
    also ekrn.exe*32
also it appears two of the same program processes too.
this only happens when firewall is in interactive mode.
    automatic is ok.
my os is windows 7 business 64 bit.

i just tried interactive firewall mode on my xp laptop, and it works fine.
the problem must be with win 7 professional.

You shouldn't have 2 instances of egui.exe running. I assume that the communication was initiated from the account that is not currently active and thus a prompt window was displayed on the screen of the other user. To exclude this possibility, make sure that only one user is logged in at a time.

i am the only user that is logged in.
i am the only one that uses the pc.
i notice the two instances of equi.exe only appear when i try to update my malwarebytes or superantispyware program definitions with the firewall on interactive mode.
    they won't update,and they freeze.
i then have to restart the pc to return to one instance of equi.exe, and select automatic mode for the firewall, after using the learning mode first,to be able to update the programs mentioned.
    regards

    Update regarding interactive mode.
I found an eset bulletin that suggested removing three files from the eset folder.
these were controlling the firewall rules.
I did this, and the interactive mode is working good now.
    regards

Maybe it'd be easier to uninstall ESS and install the latest build from scratch.
