    1) In Vbox, when I use synaptic instead of Kpackage kit to install something, I invariably get
the message that none of the packages are from authenticated sources, "Not Authenticated".
Is this because they are all from ubuntu/canonical servers or why ?

    2) Would anyone care to explain 'Activities' in Kubuntu ? I can't seem to see how they will benefit me and in any case don't understand the workings properly -
whatever I do seems to muck up things eg. cloning a desktop, and then I don't know how to delete the damn activity.

    :argh:

Hm - in my Kubuntu system Synaptic has always worked flawlessly. However, there is a bug report which might give you some hints what might be wrong.

Sorry, I've never used that feature

Thanks for feedback mack_guy and tlu. I wil look into activities and non authenticated updates again. Probably won't make use of the activities feature.

I don't use them myself, or rather, only one. For now anyway.

I think it would be useful if say, your computer is used at work and at home. You'd create one activity for each activity (!), and organize the desktop to suit each one.

Just out of curiosity, Ocky: Have you solved your Synaptic problem?

Thank you. No more problems, I installed several packages today and, without having to
sort anything out, all installed sans the 'not authenticated' warning.
