Thats unfortunate. I have been a fan of Kaspersky since Ive heard about it and with a free license I figured I might as well put it to use.

The sad thing is the Kaspersky forums pins the issue on MBAM being installed.

I reinstalled KIS this afternoon and I observed three spike in CPU usage the highest of which was 71%. AFAIK there isn't a playback priority option in VLC but I will try the game mode idea, thanks.

I also have MBAM but only the free on demand version. Are the Kaspersky forums referring to the real-time part of MBAM? The only other real-time program I have is Prevx safeonline but this can't be the problem for me as I only installed it recently.

I have MBAM Pro, however I have it entirely disabled and I only run an on demand scan and update with it once a week or so.

    Hi Igster

That is really weird as I have alsmost the same spec on my PC and I am certainly not seeing anything like the slow down that you are reporting. I am running Build 556 (a.b.c)

Except Auslogics disk defrag and Tuneup utilities 2009 KIS 2011 doesn't allow other defrag programs to touch its files with self defense enabled. I used to first check with defraggler and do a simple file only defrag with Auslogics and recheck again with defraggler which then showed no fragmented KIS files:p

What a shame. It is running flawlessly on my machine. If you are not going to use that license anymore I will gladly accept it! j/k :D
I think the paid and free are different setup files?

Dunno...different setups, different programs running and installed? Different versions of KIS?

I have tried Kaspersky, just the AV and KIS several times because I like the product and it has always done very well in my testing, but I always end up eventually uninstalling it because it always ends up dragging down my system.

If a user uses Kaspersky Updater program (offline update), his version will show (b.a.c). If a user updates his installation via online update (default), his version will show (b.c).

If you use KIS 2011 CF2 initial release (without integrated patches), you will get a.b.c after update (either online or offline).

When CF 2 was first released it was taken offline shortly after. This first CF2 had a bug with the firewall forgetting custom rules. Patch A was released for this bug. When CF2 was re-released later this bug was already fixed, so I if you have the new installer, you don't need patch A.

This KIS build (b.c) is slowing down my broadband connection. Speed becomes normal after uninstalling KIS. I didn't face this issue in (a.b) build. I connect my laptop to the router through wi-fi.

KIS act as local proxy. Therefore, nothing is there to slow down your internet.

I am using KIS in my desktop which is connected to modem by ethernet with no issues. It is just my laptop having internet speed issues. I may try KIS again in my laptop preferably after restoring a clean backup image.
