KIS 2009 realtime heuristics protection

Does enabling the heuristics in the real time file protection module (which is turned off by default), slows down the PC speed? If yes, then to how much extent?

 

Here with a AMD64 2,3 Ghz (1 core) and 2 GB RAM I have the HEUR of KIS 2009 at maximum and not much slowdowns, but I'm from the "paranoid club" but You can try with medium.

Then why KIS lab has turned it off by default?

 

Maybe in some old systems can slowdown or reduce the performance, but better You try with minimum or medium and see ...

Well, I myself did some tests to figure it out, after enabling the heuristics (Highest Level), I experienced a bit slowdown in speed.

The above mentioned figures are approximate.

So I think we should turn it on, no harm.

 

I think so, my system has more RAM (2 GB) but less power processing and not much slowdown so You can try to enable it and try HEUR with maximum or medium.

However, there'll be people with less system resources so I think by design that'll be the reason why KL turned it off by default. In any case, if you do regular system scans where heuristics is turned on, you'll get the benefit of secondary scanning using this technique.

I personally have heuristics set at medium under the highest setting for full system scans. In my use so far, I have yet to see any heuristic alerts.
