When will the English V2013 beta be released? I am waiting for NVT and Kingsoft 2013 cloud to complete my setup :)

To clarify what I posted about earlier:

    KS.png

The file detected as being a virus is completely harmless, so the description is not true. Also, it's a heuristic detection - since heuristics have a tendency towards false positives a heuristic detection should be described as being harmful as anyway. A better description would be say the file is possibly harmful.

Maybe it's time to ditch Kingsoft again.

    @roger_m

    Hey Roger...

    - feel free to send me your suspicious samples whenever you come up with one of them so that i can let you know whether or not it's malware.
btw in your shot the issued file is LiveUpdate.exe. not your whole archive. we can not guarantee if it's really safe.

    - when it comes to Heuristic analyzing , getting false positive results are very likely to happen. it's absolutely natural in all the security suits.

    - But you can absolutely count on kingsoft 2013 as for there has been a huge housecleaning

    - btw can you be kind enough to let me know which build of kingsoft are you currently using ? (the SP number)

    Regards,
    Amin

    Thanks for your reply Amin.

I know it is just detecting the one file, but the file is harmless.

I understand regarding the false positives - however for some security products they are rare. My issue is not so much with the false positives (although there is a lot of room for improvement). The issue is that heuristic detections are being described as viruses, when of course a heuristic detection is identifying a file as only being a possible threat. So some of the files detected will be safe. Accordingly it would be much better to identify that the file may be harmful, rather than saying it is a virus.

I look forward to the 2013 version.

    you're welcome.:)

Heuristic analyzing is not that much inaccurate after all. it compares codes of the issued(unknown) file with the known malware codes to see how much similar they are.
Enough similarity percentage between unknown and known codes may cause the file to be flagged as malware. (Static heuristic)

To cut the long story short.. sometimes those detected ones are viruses like for real. so we can't leave a doubt for users that whether it's dangerous or not. ( can we say "it's probably a virus" ?- No.)
And also sometimes some safe files are just falsely detected.

I admit that you're right for sure.. and heuristic analyze should be more accurate, but we couldn't really run the risk to lower the detection sensitivity without having a good backup plan.

On the other hand , "false positive" is way better then "false negative", i'm sure non of you users wanna experience "false negatives".. at least "false positive" won't cause any trouble for you , while "false negative" does cause terribly.( That doesn't mean we like false positives, no way in hell)
I'm not specifically talking about kingsoft, this fact applies to all the security softwares.

However, nowadays most of the users know what "heuristically detected malwares" are and also know they can't be necessarily malwares. So you should be careful about these kinda detections just in case.

Thank you very much for reporting this.:thumb:

I hope kingsoft 2013 would best satisfy your needs.

    Regards,
    Amin

Amim, will 2013 be offered in the updater of 2012? or will I have to uninstall it to put it on?

Since you are putting in a scheduler will it at least be manual in the sense if you do not want a scheduled scan (like if you are running another antivirus program along side it) you will have the option to not use the schedular?

And I am assuming it will work on a 64bit machine since all machines out now a days are 64bit?

    thanks

    Hi..

    - Since there have been major changes in kingsoft and its core ,etc , you should do a clean install of KAV2013

    - yes of course Scan scheduler will be quite optional.

    - and yes again. :)

PS: btw how did your seminar go on ?

    Regards,
    Amin

    I understand that.

That is why it would be better to describe heuristic detections as being a possible threat, rahter than labeling them as viruses.

I'm not sure sure about that. For posters here a Wilders then that is probably true, but for the general public I would disagree. I thibk that many people do not know the difference between heursitic and regular detection, and going to treat herustic detections the same - which of course is a problem when safe files are flagged by the heurstics.

This is something which applies to antivirus software in general and not just to Kingsoft. I believe there needs to be a clear distinction made between detections, so that users don't automatically assume that files flagged by heuristics, or detected as being unwanted are dangerous.

normally, every behavior of freezing suspicious files to quarantine, is under consideration of building a more strict security protection, against inbound threats.
This feature is most concerned with user interaction, we will consider it.

Me definitely will be more attracted to the KAV if it will be even more beautiful and the same light and no false positives (as it is now).

In general Kingsoft AV is great! :thumb:

Seminar went great, I showed kingsoft, explained it can go alongside reg antivirus program. Their only concern was that it comes from china not the USA
I told them Avast is from another country and not the USA I explained it is what it does not where it came from. There were around 75 ppl that showed up. About 75% said they would download it and try it.
Some of the pics r here but I was limited for time so I did not take a pic of it on the screen but I did show it to them and how it works
    Go to. http://www.rdinternetassociates.com/Pages/SeminarsCommunityPrograms.aspx
Scroll all the way down till you see Princeton PCM users group

I plan Ono showing it at my next one in Nov. You should consider making one for the android bases phone. Like avast and avg have
