Hi folks, Is a wireless router needed for the latest Amazon Kindle? I'm thinking of purchasing one for my step-father but he doesn't want the hassle of a wireless router. If I purchased the Kindle 3G version would a wireless router be neccesary or can it function without it?
imperium, according to Amazon's Wireless Access With Whispernet, the Kindle 3G + Wi-Fi comes with free 3G wireless, however, do read the Kindle (Latest Generation) License Agreement and Terms of Use, especially section 2. Wireless Connectivity.
I have the earlier version without the wireless. I don't have 3G, so I sign with my PC (wired or wireless) and send the books to the PC for Kindle. Once you buy your Kindle it would be automatically registered in your Amazon (email) account you purchased it from. You can de-link it and then your step father can link it from his own Amazon account (email) to buy further books. When you connect the Kindle through the USB post it acts like a flash drive and then you can transfer your books to it. Best regards, KOR! Note: Any books which you buy can be used on five devices, this includes your PCs and Apple iPads. Free books can be used on as many devices as you please!
So I can just download bought books from my PC to Kindle via a usb cable? Excellent. Thanks for your reply.
You are welcome! You can download the Kindle software for your PC if you want to read the eBooks on your PC. http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/ref=kcp_pc_mkt_lnd?docId=1000426311 The free eBooks and there are lots of them can be read on as many devices as you want. However, the purchased (paid money) eBooks can be only used on 5 registered devices at a time. For example, if you have your PC registered as a device. Therefore, you have to download the eBook twice. Once for your PC and once for kindle. Each download is serialized to work on that particular device. Therefore, you need to keep the downloads separates in different directories in your PC. Hope that is helpful. Best regards, KOR!
It comes with a USB cable (regular USB cablee) which either you can connect it to your PC or the supplied battery charger. BTW, you don't have to own Kindle to buy and read the Kindle eBooks. You can read them on your PC/Laptop/iPad.
