Hmm... Is that astronomical spring or meteorological spring? Northern Hemisphere or Southern Hemisphere?

For Northerm Hemisphere, astronomical spring begins with the March equinox which occurs every year between March 19 and March 21.

    Soon...
    Spring has sprung.
    The grass has riz.
I wonder where Doc Kerish is?

They're Russian, so it is the Northern Hemisphere. I'm gueessing it is the meteorlogical spring. But that may be because I'm from Australia where there never is any mention of the astronomical spring.

@roger_m -- Thanks Roger. KD 4.75 Is now sailing along sweetly with a following wind.

@ all -- On KD's Main page, the list of components (with on/off switches) has just 1 item I might turn on -- namely, "PC Protection". Its stated purpose is "Protection against threats & vulnerabilities." QUESTIONS:

1- Is PC Protection something like a signature-based antivirus, or is it more like a behavior blocker, or.... what?

2- Are there any of these switches that someone HAS turned to ON -- thereby creating another real-time patroller to keep the cpu busy? If so, why? AND If so, does it run light or heavy or...?

Any & all comments will be much much muchly appreciated.

It uses signatures and a behaviour blocker. There are other things it monitors too, as you can see in the screenshot. For example, it can detect when important system files are deleted. While its signatures are updated daily, it doesn't detect much. Also the behaviour blocker is very weak compared to decent behaviour blockers in antiviruses. By default, if you use Kerish in real time mode, the protection module is enabled. It is doesn't have any significant performance impact, so there's no reason to disable it.

Thanks for that elucidation Roger, as I know you test these things.

I prefer to keep everything switched off (probably have to much protection anyway :D) and run periodic full scan maintenance. Never had an issue, v4.75 now also.

I finally located Kerish's new "Fast Search" capability (added by minor update 4.77). For some reason, Kerish put the Fast Search at the very tail end of its "Maintenance" category. The form for initiating a search is lengthy and looks somewhat complex. Obviously all that complexity should enable finding what you're looking for in those rare cases when a simpler searcher (such as "Everything) might not. However, Everything has never failed to find any file I looked for.

I tested Kerish's new "Windows Update" (it's located under "Tools"). It took 3-4 minutes for it to "Build the list." In the meantime, Kerish locked itself so that I couldn't abort the process until it was finished. I view this "added capability" as a solution to a non-existent problem. Windows Control Panel does the very same job. Maybe I'm missing the point of this "tool". If so, somebody please set me straight.

I remain an ardent fan-boy of the good Doctor. He dug me out of a couple of deep cesspools when I needed him.

@bellgamin It's really easy to use the Fast Search.

    Kerish 1.png
You just select on the drive/s you want to search and then click below "Search criteria" to enter what you want to search for.

    Kerish 2.png
After entering what you want to search for, click on OK and then Next, to start searching.

    The searches are extremely fast.

The Windows Updates tool, doesn't do anything that Windows Update itself can't do. In my case it took only around ten seconds, to finish searching for updates.

@roger_m -- I did that basic search with Kerish before posting my comments. However, I use old Doc Kerish only on-demand so -- by the time I load Kerish, access the Fast Search, & execute -- I can find the file with "Everything" and be making myself a Spam-with-mayo-&-Tabasco sandwich. :p

A lot of people find their systems run faster after using it.
What issues did you have? It would be exceptionally rare for Kerish Doctor to cause issues. As an example, its registry cleaner doesn't have issues with false positives, unlike the registry cleaners in CCleaner, Wise Care 365, etc.

It went from being practicly dead silent to a fan that rushed on and off, all the time.

All the "problems" it finds, is not really anything else than "invented" problems like so many other registry cleaners. It can help out with making one aware of some bad settings, thats good, but overall i would rather buy cacheman to speed up my computer.

That would have been due to it running scans for problems in the background. You can configure Kerish to not run it background, which is how I had it configured on my last computer.
Just like 99.9% of registry cleaners, it does not invent problems. As well as this, unlike almost all other registry cleaners, it does not have issues with false positives. I've used it on many different computers and I've only ever found one instance when it recognised a valid registry key as being bad. Having said that, it is exceptionally rare for cleaning the registry to fix any problems or make a computer run faster. But at least Kerish Doctor is safe to use and it is more than just a registry cleaner.

Does it really scan every 3 to 4 minute, over and over and over... ?
I thought it was a compatibility issue with Live optim.

Do you know if the changes it does to different settings is spared when one uninstalls it, thoose that it "recommends"?

I'm not sure how often it does a scan. I just let it do its work in the background and not worry about it. If you uninstall it, nothing will get reverted.

I remember one experience I had that made me like the app.

When my desktop was black due to explorer.exe not executing for some reason it was Kerish's real time component who detected it and promptly repaired it.

Unfortunately it is not completely compatible with SUA since I have manually start it on each boot-up

I would not feel comfortable running with the 'live' optimisation feature @pb1.

I just run it occasionally on demand, and have never had an issue.

I've used KD for several years on every computer that I own and my family owns. It is one of my favorite programs and/or utilities. On all machines, I have it run "live" all the time. I've never had a single problem on any computer over the course of several years. In fact, I find that KD keeps my PC's functioning very well. IMO it is not "snake oil" and has fixed several issues on several machines that I've had.
BTW--you can undo changes if you want prior to uninstalling it. (I've never done this, however.) I don't know how far back you can undo.

I don't use the Live Optimisation feature, as I use Process Lasso. However I do have the other components enabled. If you have error repair and junk repair cleanup enabled, it is doing the same as running a manual scan, its just done automatically in the background. Unless the background scans are slowing down your computer, I think it's a good idea to leave them enabled, so you never need to run manual scans.

The PC Protection function monitors your system and can sometimes find and fix problems.
