Hmm....It seems Kaspersky didn't want anyone to learn about the pre-beta stuff....I guess it was supposed to be a secret.

Why do think that? There's even a official 2006 Beta forum on Kaspersky.com.
The current prototype was removed because of problems with the security descriptors on NTFS disk after scanning. A new version should be available in the next couple of weeks.

Yes, beta testing of prototype brougt out serious problems with security descriptors. It was decided to remove package from KL ftp because of too enthusiastic download, insallation on people's main work/home computers and recommendation to friends of this pre-beta software, containing such problem.
Anyway, now the solution was found. Official post about next public is here:

[KL] New KIS 2006 public release plans
    Hello all.
Unfortunately, we need more time for testing some of our new technologies, so the real date of the next [half]public build will be between 10 and 20 of april.
But the development team is working very hard and now we suggest to view some screenshots from the current internal build:

Sorry - this is a russian forum, but screenshots in English and they speak for themselves, I think.
    Best regards,
    Nikolay Grebennikov

Sorry if this has been asked before, but do current users of KAV 5 get free upgrades to KAV 6? Thinking of getting one, trial-ing on some notebooks to see how resource hungry it is. If it comes out in late April, then I can wait :)

Yes, you buy a subscribtion for a year, so you will be able to install Kaspersky 6.0 without any problem, if you initially have bought Kaspersky 5.0 Personal (which will have to be uninstalled first of course ;) ). :)

P.s. It will be at least a couple of months before Kav 6 arrives, it's only a prototype yet, lots of beta-testing ahead for me.

    Hi VaMPiRiC_CRoW

If i were you, then i would wait until the first beta arrives, it is scheduled for the first half of june and are AFAIK on schedule so far.

But i have used the second prototype on my primary pc (not something that i would recommend for anyone to do!), after using the second installer released, for 3 weeks without a problem, i have undoubtedly been lucky i have never had this little trouble when running beta software ever.

If you can't wait then i would recommend you use your own firewall (you can disable any module you wish during the install) and download second installer http://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php?showtopic=115, but i would wait for the first official beta, it should be with all components for the first time btw. :)

    You're welcome VaMPiRiC_CRoW & Infinity

There most likely will be a simultaneous release of Kav 2006 & Kis 2006 beta btw, Infinity. :)
