That's Kaspersky Anti-virus for Mac, this is another product, on-demand only.

Given the strict guidelines of the Mac App Store, the likelihood of a Real-Time antimalware being distributed from there are pretty slim. Add to that the fact that pretty soon all app store apps are going to work with enforced sandboxing.

the app store guidelines seem very stupid imo. sure you can clean out rogue apps but its a reactive approach. credit card details and whatever else can already be taken before the cleanup is done.

oh, now what I saw on Softpedia makes sense. The Anti-Virus was $39 and the other version with just on-demand was $9.95. Kind of like the 3 different versions of Intego Virus Barrier X6.

I bet the idea about having the only the on-demand version is it can be sold on the Apple App Store. The "best" and in my opinion only AV you should run has Real-Time scanning. These CAN'T be sold on the Apple App Store because the better AVs hook into the Kernel and Apple disallows Kernel hooks on any apps in their App Store.
