    Hi Baz_kasp,

Yes i tried that twice, once at initial installation of kav, the next when i was re-checking settings after reboot days ago. I thought i had it unchecked already but just noticed is not, again o_O I'll try one more time and let you know, maybe it's not related to updating databases...

It looks good, but there are still many bugs, with updating, webpage showing and other things. I think it shouldn't be a Technical release yet...

However, I hope this small issues will be fixed in the final release. I've got a 2 year license, as I'll get 2009 as soon as it is officially released. I just hope the final release it doesn't have slow down, updates and webpage issues like 7.0.0.125 had.
Well, I want to congratulate with Kaspersky Labs for this great job. To say the truth, after seeing latest comparatives, my evil alter-ego was trying to convince me to switch to Avira, after 5 years of proud Kaspersky usage. But then, when I saw this out, I said: ***** Avira! Kaspersky Is bAcK!:argh:

Last version is pretty fast. What version are you talking about?

the last one, the tech release. KIS 8.0.0.357.

Yes it is fast indeed, but it has some problems sometimes when updating, and some websites don't show correctly. And yeah, there's also the large archive scanning slowdown.

    Not here it is not.

No problems updating...in fact the smoothest updating I have seen in 3-4 years. No slow down when scanning large archives. May be just an issue with you rig or have you tweaked the default settings to make the scanning more rigorous?

In fact I can find no faults at present...there may be some minor ones around but this is definitively IMHO TR material.

Mmmm...Well ok anyway I'll be waiting for the official release.;)

After that I'll also wait for the new av-comparatives and matousec leak tests, and I'll be happy to insult all people who insulted kaspersky 7.0.:D

It will indeed be interesting to see what the various testing organisations and magazines have to say about KIS 2009 once they get there hands on it. I am sure that it will have its detracters...as always...as well as its supports...and to be honet the market is big enough for all in there at presnt and probably more. Competition is a good things and keeps companies on their toes...but I cannot see myself moving away from KIS.:D

I had problems with it after installing (tried 3 times). It would begin updating, and in the middle it would say it's finished, ask for a restart, then give me errors about erroneous components and to repair it (which didn't work)... I'd restart, and the same thing happens.

+1... I wonder how much a difference Kaspersky's packer detection (suspicious-packer and multi-packer) make to Kaspersky's results. I'm sure its not going to detect as many packers as Avira, but a v7 vs v8 detection comparison will be nice. I am interested in knowing this (although I also know raw detection is not anymore as good an indication as it used to be of how strong AVs are because many now also rely on other proactive (on-execution) features which also makes it more difficult to assess which is the stronger AV).

Indeed, av-comparative only makes scanning tests, which is not enough. I wonder if they even set settings to maximum and if they enable riskware detection...:D
Anyway, a good test should be a combination of scanning and execution test, so that antiviruses can give their maximum.:)

I am genuinely interested to know how you can be so sure it is not going to detect as many packers as Avira? What basis do you have for that assertion? Have you carried out your own comparision?:D

Internal testing has been very good from what I hear. But the real litmus test will be from testing done externally. So better then Avira, who knows. I think it is safe to say that "cleaning" will be better.:cautious:

What insignificant reputation? I think that it is as it has always been...otherwise I would not have asked the question of you. Why ask someone of insignificant reputation any question.o_O

Wasn't trying to get you...am genuinely interested on why you believe this and how you have found out.:)

Really great product! Can't wait for the official release.
    Great detection,lots of features,extremely smooth,impressive new GUI.
Only problem i noticed that i can't manually update neither KIS 2009 or KAV 2009,from a local folder.
Maybe it's a bug and so i hope they will fix it.

    Hello,
due to the completley new engine in kis2009 there is a new database format so the manual update files wont work. once its released KL should give out the manual updates in the new format.

In Anti-Malware>Settings>Files & Memory>General Tab, I left it at the default setting of Files Scanned By Format. Should it be left there or set to All Files?

    Left it at default.
Setting it to 'scan All Files' will slow down the performance of your computer.

Thanks Macstorm. I'm still finding my way around this new KIS, but so far I'm pretty happy with it. It loads fast, it's running very light with no browser slow downs.

I found it really is a piece of cake after I got over that intial shock and jumped in. Play with the settings, you can change them back. I now have mine set so high and tight a snail cant slip through. The funny thing is I havent broke it. Luv this suite.;)
