Because the average consumer believes in the KISS principal. They don't want layered defences and multiple programs. They want one that handles everything and they don't want to have to put too much thought and effort into configuring their software unless it's something for play.

Our company uses Kaspersky in a corporate enviroment, this another of you bash Kaspersky posts?I think they looked at other solutions ,pehaps even your beloved DrWeb,and decided Kaspersky was best suited to their/our needs

lol, if your truly in Manchester than you will know that its either Norton, Mcafee or Kaspersky in the shops, on the adverts and in the advertisements, this has nothing to do with Drweb vs Kaspersky for a 'Russian Choice', so why add fuel to the fire?

im sure people just post to start arguments on here LOL :)

nothing to do with DrWeb vs Kaspersky it is to do with that guy knocking products he doesn't use/dislikes at every opportunity and yes am truly in Manchester(well Gtr Manchester) but what on earth has what is in the shops around here got to do with it,to be honest don't go "shopping" unless my wife makes me so not sure what's stocked by major chains around here foodwise or anti-virus wise!(lol)

It sure gives his competitors the right to moan and get jealous.

Lets put it this way: He must have done something right to become the market leader. If another company (for example, Dr. Web) had made the right moves at the right time perhaps they could have been that big too :D

    Anyway...back to topic.

Indeed. In terms of market share, Kaspersky appears to be a very minor player. For the anti-virus market share distribution as of 2008, see here and here, noting that Kaspersky is so small that it is lumped into “other.” More recently (February, 2009), Kaspersky is describing as holding a “single-digit market share” (see here).

It seems eveybody is keen entering in a non existing dispute. All posts referred to the Russian market, not US or global markets. :)

I would bet those figures are enhanced from the lone non-consumer side, especially here in the states. Most companies just go with the known and who offers the best deal. Kaspersky is a major player in world terms.

With about 6% market share? o_O
I mean 5% are some sort of free editions for Asian market.

BTW never seen a global player giving away the most recent version for free, like Kaspersky does in Germany with Kaspersky Security Suite CBE Win7.

    Cheers

well its not as large as lets say Norton, Mcafee and Trend Micro, but its definitely among the top when it comes to being a major player and getting themselves out there.

Using the links provided by Pleonasm the pie seems to be getting divided into smaller slices all the time. So ya, you could probably be considered a major player with that percentage.

Kaspersky is just behind the top 3. But keep in mind the biggest is not always the best

Bloated and ineffective software packages, declining margins, poor technical and sales support, and increasing channel conflict were recurring themes. - good description of Kaspersky AV!
