Installed the latest version (new install) but KIS's firewall and anti-spyware protection do not show up in Security Center (Win 7 64). Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks for the link.

To be honest i'm really not bothered about custom installation but glad to see it corrects the app control lag. :thumb:

USA still the best. But barely.
With CF2 KIS loads faster on both my laptop & netbook.

I really like KIS. Makes me feel safer when I venture to my M$ partition.

Nice. Better than using PURE V2 (built from KIS 2010).

seeing all this positive stuff makes me want to try KIS2011 again. i bailed on it after 2011 was released and made me miserable.

I'd be more concerned about the detection ratio if I was a Kaspersky developer, AV comparatives shows that Kaspersky is becoming nothing more than a mediocre AV which is a damn shame :doubt:

    Did you test it yourself?

It's on top in dynamic tests though :) Also heuristics are great.

My (admittedly amateur) tests show Kaspersky not recognizing nearly as much malware as, say, Avira, through signatures, but stopping at least as much through other modules than signature-based detections.

    Was that with CF2 ?

The latest av comparative on-demand test does show Avira detected 13947 more malware than Kaspersky, and with both set to their highest heuristic setting, Avira also had 36 less false positives.

That was with CF1, I wonder if CF2 will improve detecting malware and less false positives.

    --edit---...

If you look at the February on-demand test, Avira 9 av detected 27049 more than Kaspersky 2010 CF2 av

No, but the Critical Fixes don't really concern detection. They are performance and bug fixes.

Components (drivers/engine/heuristic/system watcher) updates are delivered via update along with signature updates. After testing, they will be pushed to every client automatically via regular update channel.

Where detection is concerned, the first thing I do when I install it is uncheck the "Select action automatically" option. It might be a little chatty for some people that way but it is not enough to bother me and I doubt it misses much that way. I have no complaints on the detection.

If you are interested in the 2011 version this is probably the build you have been waiting for is you were not happy with it previously. I am using it without any issues.

How heavy is Kaspersky on disk writes these days? Having an SSD, I wouldn't want to install something that writes 5-10 GB per day.

I am using my system continuously for past 10 hours and until now, total writes is around 20 MB (updates and log).

How's the performance with games? Last I used it whenever I opened a game the CPU usage would spike up to 90% and make the games unbearable (With WoW and Minecraft anyway).

Are you sure? That's... surprisingly little. Even a stand-alone AV like Avira has a I/O Write Bytes column of 300,000,000 or more in that time. o_O

My system has been on for 12 hours, and I've been doing stuff like gaming (demanding games like Left 4 Dead 2), programming and web browsing. Read bytes by avp.exe is about 784 540 000 and written bytes is 21 600 000 (= 784 mb read, 21 mb written). And I'm running CF1.
Minecraft runs fine for me, and also for all my friends who are running KIS. So do all other, lighter and more demanding games.

For both avp.exe:s put together? That's quite the improvement.

If you're concerned about disk activity I would disable the idle scan. I've had no issues with it interfering with games.

I think what DenMorozov means is that it'll be fixed faster the more requests support gets. Not that it won't be fixed.
I only took the service process' values, because the GUI process' I/O usage is so low it doesn't matter. GUI process has read about 4 mb and written 144 bytes during these 13 hours.

that counter includes nearly all types of I/O, not just disk I/O.

from windows' own help file for task manager (too lazy to dig in technet): The number of write input/output operations generated by the process, including file, network, and device I/Os. I/O Writes directed to CONSOLE (console input object) handles aren't counted.

same holds true of io read bytes, just swap writes with reads in that text and you get microsoft's own description.
