the ones i got say on the cover "activated at time of purchase install immediately" in a small orange colored starburst on the cover. i did not know this when i bought them. i got them as sealed packages still in the plastic wrap but what does this mean before i open these does this mean the time on them is already ticking? they were sealed and the price was great so i grabbed 4 of them but now im hoping these willhave the full 1 year they should have had.

    can anyone chime in here??

Are they Webroot SecureAnywhere or the 2011 versions? If it's SecureAnywhere your find as Joe said many times that it starts when Activated and you can save the other one's for use at a later time. If you ever have a problem the Consumer Sales department will be happy to help you http://www.webroot.com/En_US/about-contactus.html

they are secure anywhere 2012 3 device ones, what concerned me is the little orange starburst that seemed to state they were already activated before i even opened them from the wrapping.

That doesn't sound right as how can it be activated unless the box was opened and installed and the use of the key? I hope you got them from a reliable source?

    Greetings--

I also purchased from Amazon several Webroot SecureAnywhere AV "Best Buy" items. The only thing that is different is they have to be activated at Best Buy in order to be recognized in the My Subscription section of the GUI. The items show on the Web Console.

They will not be activated for "subscription time purposes" until they are installed and key entered.

    Hope this helps.

That is the answer I received from Webroot Support.
Not having it activated by Best Buy does not affect the program or its functions at all. On Overview page of GUI it shows my remaining days of my subscription which began countdown from the day I installed and entered my key. On the My Account tab of the GUI in the My Subscription, it shows "Need to activate" in the time remaining.

hoping someone from webroot can respond to this for me. i find it crazy that this has to be done through best buy only. as well as i just called best buy and was told i have to "subscribe" to their renewal services in order to activate them?? im NOT subscribing to any renewal anything as i dont do that period i always buy a new lic and refuse to give best buy ANY of my money or my information for software i have been there and dont that and got screwed when trying to cancel a kasperky av that i never authorized then to set up as auto renewal in the first place.

someone from webroot please respond im wondering now if i will not be able to use these which will suck bit time, thank you

tech elder does that mean that you can not use the password manager though since you dont have a online account?? this is a bunch of bs.

i didnt buy these from best buy i bought them from amazon. and they are supposed to be one year subscriptions. so if they come pre activated by the time i would get them they would no longer be one year left on them. i bought these as 3pc 1 year retail boxed items. i also bought extras with the plans to hold onto them and use them at a later date. no where did it say that when i bought them and there was no orange star thing on the picture i saw. and amazon is telling me to deal with the seller who is telling me the info in this thread is not correct it has nothing to do with best buy. so how are these 1 year each if they activate it when you buy it. what if you decide you dont want to install it the day you buy it anyway. bunch of bs if you ask me but then again just another reason i dont buy anything at best buy anymore. so i guess i got screwed on them. and after telling them they camefrom amazon best buy said they will not activate them now at all now i did not say they came from amazon when i called the first time. they told me to contact webroot about it and said they could not help me. this is the only best buy within an hour of me so not much else i can do and i spoke to the manager about it. he said he has no idea why amazon was selling these and how they got them. but that does me not one bit of good now. i basically got told to jump off a bridge but not in those words. i hate best buy....would have never bought them had i known i had to deal with them on these

If you write into our support inbox and tell them the license key you have in your package, they'll be able to see how long it has left without activating it. I would guess that the time isn't already ticking down - the activation by BestBuy/etc. is to prevent theft so I presume someone already went through that process with them but it isn't decrementing the license key.

    Let me know your results!

not sure what you mean? so the key should be good still but what about actually activating it to use the online account?? will i be able to have a online webroot account to use the password manager etc??

i also just checked ebay and there are literally dozens of listings showing these same packages most people have 10 or more for sale each. so is there going to be a way to activate this thing?? as i said best buy is telling me to contact webroot and doesnt seen to want to do anything for me and im not driving an hour there an back to only have them tell me the same in the store??

will there be any way to actually activate these to add them to my webroot online account?? please let me know thank you and please know this has nothing bad to do with webroot i just wish i would have known these existed prior to buying or i would have checked to be sure i didnt get these ones. these should not be being sold if they have to be activated only by best buy imo. i made amazon aware of what best buy said and they are looking into the sellers who have these listed.

Checking with our support team is the best way to see exactly what remains on your license. You should be able to add it to your account without a problem, but I just want to be sure you're given the full 365 days.

After I received the software from Amazon, I installed one on my desktop, on which I was running the beta earlier. I noticed when checking the GUI that it stated that it was not activated. After several attempts at deleting and reinstalling, I contacted Webroot support and opened a ticket. After explaining what I was seeing, they gave me the previous answer that I posted. They told me uninstall the program and reinstall using the wsinstall online installer. When asked for key, they said to enter the key that was on the CD from Amazon. After installation, which was 2+ weeks after I purchased them, the GUI indicated that I had 365 days left on my subscription. The key does show in My Account. Everything in the program works as advertised, including updating to new releases.
The only thing not as should be is the not activated statement in the My Subscription of the GUI. Since the deal on the purchase was so good, I can overlook this.
If customer service or sales can correct this, please post solution.

    From a PM on community.webroot.com:

It sounds like somebody is screwing Webroot and customers over both when they steal these boxes and resell them. :/ But I guess the investigation needs to happen to see what's going on.

so basically i got screwed on them i guesso_O if so this sucks i bought from amazon thinking they would be legit instead of going through ebay or anywhere else that may not have been. in the end i bought a total of 6 copies because prevxhelp said it would be taken care of so hopefully there is something that can be done.

interesting seller here wow think they have enough copies just found out i know a few people who bought these from this seller also:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/BRAND-NEW-W...tivirus_Security_Software&hash=item3ccc3a9c86

and that seller has his info posted in this sale on ebay:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/BRAND-NEW-Kaspersky-Anti-Virus-Antivirus-2011-3-PCs-SEALED-BOX-/261124430787

right now in doing a search there are literally hundreds of copies for sale on ebay with the orange seal. i HIGHLY doubt there would be this many stolen in all these various locations unless its something internal where someone from best buy is selling them off. i also asked 3 other sellers on amazon if their copies had this orange seal and they also said yes. so there could be thousands of these out there. im just hoping that somehow the keys are not killed and i didnt waste my money i thought by buying from amazon instead of ebay i would be safer and amazon is telling me to deal with the seller directly now so it seems no recourse through amazon.

okay i finally got a response from the seller about these. they are stating in their words
"these copies are purchased by me from an big overstock electronic reseller and they are 100% a legal company selling them. they said they were sold off from best buy due to excessive overstock, i have sold dozens and only one had some kind of issue" and also "they had hundreds available for sale and have other brands as well such as kaspersky and norton" they are suggesting they are new returns that were unopened maybe.

maybe this will help shed some light on it. supposedly they are a name like navarre or similar is who they came fromo_O ill have to see if i can get their exact name to further assist. the sku number on mine is 3214154 which does not show up on best buy web site.

    edit: navarre?? --http://www.navarre.com/NDS/--

I suspect you'll be fine. Could you try opening up one of the packages and send me the license key inside?

    Thanks!

i can when i get back to the office. i dont have one with me right now.

see the pic that is not my copy but looks just like that back of mine.

edit: okay forgot i knew someone in the pc dept at best buy in another state and called him he is a full time employee not a manager said he would check with the store manager, he just called me back and said his manager said supposedly they sold off a ton of unsold product to a type of clearing house or something and thats prob what these are because they had so many left and it is now the 2013 version to be displayed for retail purposes. he is unshure about the legality of selling on ebay but his manager said these are most likely best buy write off's from leftover stock. his store had box full's of them as well as kaspersky and others they sent back recently. he said his manager was not or didnt seem at all concerned about them being sold.

Amazon has ALWAYS been most helpful with items I have bought through third party sellers there. I have been granted full refunds every time. Just another avenue for you to pursue if need be.
