JS/Psyme Trojan infection

Hello there,

think this is my first post!!!! I clicked on a link and my AVG reported a JS/Psyme infection. I have VBS disabled I think and there was also an error message that said that a VBS script had not run (xx-gate.net%2floader%2fget was part of the long message).

My HJT log looks clean to me, I have run CWShredder and that reports nothing. I have cleared my temporary internet files and history, run Housecall which says I am clean, Panda Activescan says I am clean too and AVG reports nothing. I have blocked Outlook through ZoneAlarm just in case and Spybot, SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard report nothing and are all the latest releases as I check for updates daily.

When this happened Windows Media Player opened in Internet Explorer but nothing ran.

I am quite certain that I am clean but am just looking for whether you think I am clean too and whether I have taken the correct precautions.

The only thing that I am a bit confused about is the double entry on C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe as one entry has a capital S and the other a lower-case s -- is this normal?

Any help or reassurance you can give would be most welcome.

Hi Paul and thanks for the prompt reply.

Can only find one of the files / running processes and that is the one with the lower case "s" for system.

Even checking hidden files and folders I cannot find the other one.

Do not know if I am being overly paranoid as all AV checks are coming back negative, but just wanted to be sure.

So in short I can only find the one file.

In fact,

looking at other people's HJT logs they all have a dual entry for the svchost file, one with the Folder Name as System and the other as system, so think I may be chasing a red herring on this one.

I think I am probably OK.

If my HJT log looks clean then I shall trouble you no more on this one.

Your log is clean. You very likely got rid of the offending script when you cleared your Temp Internet Files (You did include Off-line items?)

Don't worry about the capital or undercast S in the HijackThis log.
That is a pretty common phenomenon, as you found out yourself.

Betwen yourselves and computercops I would like to thank you for all the info supplied which has helped me make my computer a safer place. But for you I would never have come across the likes of spybot, Zonealarm etc -- I l picked pretty much all of it up here.

I got this same thing, however I delete it, clear up the virus and delete temp internet files the blasted thing still bugs me.
