    Windows XP SP2

Can somebody confirm that Jetico Beta 9 writes a registry entry into:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
    and
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]

each time with purpose to start 'jpf.exe'. If so, why the double entry?

Not confirmed here. Just have entry in Local Machine. Not in Current User.

Probably. I went through the registry and deleted all of jetico 1 entries before installing jetico 2.

Does anyone noticed problems with clear log function? I tried several times to clear the log but it always returns on Jetico UI restart or full system restart.

Confirmed here. It seams only the Window is cleared but not the log itself.

Yes, it does only clear for current (jetico) session, there should be a "delete" log option. (I currently close jetico and manually delete the jpfsrv.log files)

Should I report a bug to Jetico Support or they are already aware of this.

I think this would be more of a "request" to add an option to delete the log.

Don't know was this discussed here before, but this could be a remnant issue from v1.x.
So, in v1.x, if you clear the log, then rmb to open/browse for another log, then cancel that request (i.e. cancel the browse dialog box), Jetico returns last log on the screen.
Looks like this bug just got escalated in v2.x. Should be easy to fix (?).

    2.0.0.10 beta is ready.
    http://www.jetico.com/jpf2.htm#downloads
    Changes:
    • Startup problems should be fixed. At least, startup should become faster.
    • BSOD caused by process attack rules fixed.
    • Incorrect protocol list handling in IP rules fixed.
    • Rule editor dialog design changed.
    • Setup program fixed. No more error messages during installation in event log.
    • Default configuration. Added rule to allow jpf.exe to install global hooks; spelling errors fixed.

We plan to drop NT4 support in favor of 2003 SP1, Vista and 64-bit systems.

    - Complete deinstall Beta 9
    - Cleaned Registry
    - reboot
    - Install Beta 10
    - reboot

    Result:
This Beta 10 killed my complete Connection Configuration. No traffic possible, mixed up my TCP/IP configuration, Blocked everything, etc.
I had to backup from an image file

Sorry. Spoke to soon. Some services still not starting correctly with Jetico 2 build 10 set to automatic.

    1. O&O Clevercache 6 build 2494
    2. O&O Defrag 8.5 build 1788

These programs will not start when Jetico set to automatic. Only two found so far.
They work OK when Jetico set to manual.

Installed JPF 2.0.0.10 beta. On startup JPF pops up with a Access to Network for WINDOWS\System32\Spoolsv.exe. I click ok to allow it. Then I get the same exact popup again.

I created a rule in the IP table then moved it around in the table by dragging and dropping it. Jetico then frooze up on me. It then took me awhile to finally shutdown Windows to restart it. Upon Windows restart I then get a popup of "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library" Runtime Error! Program: jpfsrv.exe . The Application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. I then click "ok" then another popup appears. "Jetico Personal Firewall" Could not connect to firewall server. Error code: 0x80080005.

Uninstalled JPF and it is still getting stuck on "Program Registry Entries" and will not place a check mark next to it to complete the uninstall process.

    Running: WinXP Pro SP2

I am sorry for problems with 2.0.0.10. Now we reproduced only double popups.
You can safely click "Cancel" once - it should restore normal popups operation.
In the 2.0.0.10 we slightly changed service without GUI operation strategy.
Previous versions just dropped popups (you could see many "ask" entries in log). 2.0.0.10 creates temporary 'reject' rules (the same as for "Block once" answer) for popup events if no GUI is available. When GUI starts up it deletes
    all temporary rules.
As for other problems, please send us details to support@jetico.com.

it seems to me that two major issues in jpf v2 beta:
    1)stability
2)as other firewall products improve in passing leaktests, jpf v2 beta's detection mechanism remains the same with v1.

I agree in your first point, but that's why it's called Beta. For point two i can only tell that Beta 2 has improved a lot and is for now passing most leaktests; thanks to the indirect access detecion.

I would say if you don't want to take risks, don't use a BETA in no way.
If you like to play with Betas and take all nececarry preventions of data loss, use Jetico Beta 9, as the Beta 10 has in some case problems with loading it's own sys files. This could result in blocking other services like TCP/DHCP, etc. and total closing of any network connection.
