While I updated per instructions (Thanks). I am wondering if an average user would notice the difference between Sun and openjdk with the icedtea6 plugin. Does anyone have experience with openjdk? What is the downside? Is it buggy or lacking in advanced features?

Looks like the troubles with opemjdk may be a thing of the past. Of course it's vastly preferable because it will be updated regularly from the repos. With Sun's jre one needs to check often for updates that fix security vulnerabilities.
