    JanusVM (June-2007) Release
    --------------------------------------------------------------
    Because of two exploits found with Samba and PPTPD, plus the latest Tor update, we
    are encouraging existing users to update to the new version immediately!
    If you have not tried JanusVM, now would be a great time!
    It's FREE, open source, and protects your privacy when used at home or on the road.

    You can download JanusVM from http://janusvm.peertech.org.

    Fixes and Additions to the latest update include:
    * Updated Tor to 0.1.2.14 (which includes the new IP addresses of the Directory Authorities)
    * Added "New Circuit" menu option for manually requesting a new exit.
    * Fixed Samba vulnerability (CVE-2007-2444, CVE-2007-2446, CVE-2007-2447)
    * Fixed PPTPD vulnerability (CVE-2007-0244)
    * Fixed initial "loopback detected" error when establishing the VPN connection
    * There is now an "Internal" and "External" network interfaces
    * A few j-config menu bug fixes

    What is JanusVM?
    JanusVM is freeware that allows you to hide your real IP address while surfing the Internet without oppression or censorship.
    Unlike many other Proxy programs, JanusVM allows you to use Tor even if your favorite applications don't support socks proxies.
    This means that you don't have to reconfigure all your applications like you normally would when using a proxy.
    Just run JanusVM, connect via VPN to JanusVM, and you're online anonymously. It's that simple.
    JanusVM was designed to used on Microsoft Windows (2000/XP/2003 Server/Vista) and Linux.

    JanusVM Features
    * Works with WiFi.
    * Supports multiple users in a LAN (249 Max).
    * Protects you from most man-in-the-middle attacks.
    * Protects you from Javascript, Java, and Flash based side-channel privacy attacks.
    * Protects your identity and your true location by masking your IP Address.
    * Encrypts and re-routes your DNS request and ALL TCP traffic to ensure strong privacy.
    * Strips out most privacy sensitive information your web browser may leak.
    * Blocks pop ups, annoying ads, banners, and other obnoxious Internet junk.
    * Very simple setup and operation.
    * Works transparently for applications using TCP. (No UDP or ICMP support)

    You can download JanusVM from http://janusvm.peertech.org.

    There is now an external and internal network interfaces.
    The external interface can be used by others within your LAN to get online anonymously, if you want them to.
    The internal interface is for you to use on your PC, which helps prevent DOS attacks against active VPN sessions.

    A variant of JanusVM called "JanusVM Live" is also available. This
    boots from read-only CDROM ISO image and keeps all state in memory.
    The included JanusVMLive.vmx for VMWare locks all VM pages in memory
    so that no runtime information is paged out to swap.

    The janusvm.iso included in the Live release ZIP should work with
    other virtual machines, like VirtualBox ( http://www.virtualbox.org/ ) and possibly
    QEMU ( http://fabrice.bellard.free.fr/qemu/ ).
    Feedback is appreciated, as we have not verified the networking
    capabilities of these other VM's to ensure compatibility with JanusVM
    VPN and transparent proxy support.

    Thank You and Enjoy!

    I have used JanusVM (Windows version) in the past and I can vouch for it, easy to use and reliable (never had a problem).

    The live CD is a nice improvement, I will definetly try it out, should I understand that if I burn the .iso to a CD it works this way? Or the .iso just runs as a virtual machine?

    Does anybody know of an installation walkthru that is easier to use than the video shown on the Janus VM site?

    Thanks in advance.
