Well, if you're a nooby attempting to set up your new Avast AV, it lets you know you can get help for 30 days. I don't particularly like that they farmed out their telephone support, I guess it works for them. It would be great if you could uncheck a radio button to get rid of it.

Oh dear , why did you? 3years !!! The paid version AV practically provides no additional protection to the free one . Avast Software (Alwil) always submits Avast 5 FREE for the tests (e.g. AV-Comparatives) .

It is awful - you paid for an adware . It is not even Avast ad but a 3rd party one

If there were not users like Zfactor, there would be no free Avast.

Correct - and an even bigger reason why there should be "NO ADS" period!:thumbd:

I would check into the possibility of receiving a refund and look in another direction.

Hello folks. Many of you know me, if you don't I am the Avast CEO. Thanks for all the feedback and reactions. This is a very limited trial of providing free phone support to paid users. It is a short term trial to gauge the usefulness of the support and the community reaction. Please do give us your comments.

We have noticed lately that we have more and more new users that need help in installation, removing viruses, etc. Before building our own large telephone support infrastructure, we decided to try an outsourced approach. It is not an advertisement or a way of us making money. Please feel free to give me any feedback you have--positive and negative. The more detailed the better. you can leave it here on the forum or email me directly to steckler at avast.com. Thanks much

I see no problem with "ad" being in Avast, when taken in context - they are offering free support for Avast. I'm sure this would be helpful for some Avast users.

avast ceo... i tested this out and called this number and BARELY got them off the phone they were very pushy in trying to get me to take their coverage for the long term as well as for "other" electronics. imo not a good move. please at least allow use the ability to turn these ads off i would not have paid for your suite had i known, maybe im the only one but im sure im not. please remove the ads or allow use to turn them off. i got rid of it for now by modifying the host file. but not the route i should have had to go.

Actually the reason it says 30 days is that we are only trying the iYogi approach for 30 days. This is what I had meant earlier about a short term trial.

Also there will be an updated version of the in-product message later today that will hopefully respond to most of your complaints/issues.

    Feedback.

"It is not an advertisement or a way of us making money".

No?? If Avast wants to safe money by outsourcing, and by doing so, making more revenue in the end, fine. But if that means at the expense that I have to look at an avertisement every time I open the GUI, its goodbye from this paid multiple license user. If I wanted a avertisement I good have taken the free version.

either way there should not be ANY ad there, and from a customer i assure you that i called them and they wanted to push their services on me very badly... it felt like a credit card company trying to sell you their "protection in case of (insert bad thing here)" type policy... no thank you. i finally hung up on the guy i had on the phone. also the person i spoke with said it was a trial for 30days after that it will cost the user to use the service. that is exactly what they told me...

For the free version you can add program.avast.com to your hosts file or block it in a firewall. Maybe that works for this one too?

Zfactor and others, we do agree that the message in the console looks way too much like an ad. That was not the intent. It is being heavily changed and I think what will shortly be there will be very acceptable. I will post a screen shot of it on our forum (forum.avast.com) shortly.

I myself also called iYogi anonymously early this morning and had a much different experience (a positive one). But you are not the first to complain about a heavy sales message so we are working with iYogi to fix that.

    Thanks for all the feedback.

yes it does but i have been told avast internet security needs that available for some things. for the time i have it blocked. but then im not using the software like it should be..i LOVE my avast program and really had hoped it not go in this direction. avast as a whole has been so good to me between sales and tech etc i have had nothing but good things to say. i hope this does not change my mind..

and if users of the paid version still do not like this ad after it is as you say fixed what will we do then. i think maybe as i said a way to turn it off would be best to add also with the changed ad... i will provide any help i can be for you in this if needed as far as feedback goes even if you want me as well as a few others to test run the newer style one i would be happy to work with you.

To allow this to happen to the paid users of your antivirus who have already "gave you their hard earned cash" and "you still want more from them" is "100%,Absolutely,Completely Unacceptable!" and IMO, "you" or "whoever" made this "Boneheaded Decision", should be removed from their position :thumbd: :thumbd:

i just had a freind call them and he was treated basically the same as i was on the phone. he also noted that when he refused theirs sales tactics the lady he spoke with started to almost get rude with him.... and he is not a computer "savy" person so that is how the normal every day user would have been treated, however to note i also expected to get actual tech support and services directly from avast and not a third party...
