Is Windows Defender + MBAM Pro enough on Windows 8.1?

This caused me to lose faith in MBam Pro. So uninstalled it and am now using 8.1 Defenders real-time protection, so hope that continues to work. I would install Avira but dont like the slow scan initiation time and slower boot on 8.1.

Wow! But I thought MBAM would not disable proactive protection Windows Defender, but only complement it? I have used MBAM with defender before. But Microsoft warns of using MBAM Pro with Defender.

Avira is really good, but slows my computer too.

Besides what has been mentioned already - it is very, very important to have your Flash and Java updated if you use them. Many infections come by way of older versions that are installed. Another thing - even if you keep them installed it is also very, very important to not have any older versions of these on your computer as they can be used by malware. The current installations/versions of Flash and Java allow for automatic updates so keep that in mind when selecting boxes to check when installing.

Lastly you may wish to consider trying Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit even though it is still in beta.

I don't have JAVA installed, but I know that my flash player is old, version 11. My Maxthon portable has its own Flash Player, and IE uses the old flash player. Will Emsisoft not enough to protect me against flash exploits?

What about SurfCanister that virtualizes browser?

It won't disable Windows Defender. MBAM is not an antivirus and not meant to replace one.
