    A complete novice computer user can be safe if he's intelligent enough to learn security by himself (one can argue that this is also education - and I tend to agree) and he's aware of the security field. From my personal experience, nobody had to teach me about security, but I was fortunate enough to have a teacher that made us aware that IT security is important (she didn't teach us how to actually secure a computer, it was enough that she told us why the security is important).
