    Hi Wilders,

I currently use ESS on my PC.
But soon i will change to MAC and Eset doesn't support the Mac platform
    right now.
So therefore do I wonder if there ever will be a Mac version of NOD or ESS?

I mean have you guys at ESET even talked about to develop
a Mac version at some point?

    Cheers, Johan

Hmmm... I don't see much use for AVs on MacOS desktops really. The server products are available for Linux and BSD but that's a different story (mailservers, fileservers, web gateways etc.)

There is not much malware writtern for Macs. Apple, do however recommend that you run something, I think this is purely to cover their own backs.

That said, I wouldn't feel happy as we all know how _slow_ Apple are to patch their systems. No ESET all I've ever seen is McAfee and Norton for the Mac market. I run nothing on my Mac, but hardly use it.

    Hi guys thanks for replying!

Yes sure I agree that there's not a lot of viruses, trojans etc... that is
threatening the Mac as of today.

But lately it has coming at least one warning every month that there is a new virus or trojan out there so be careful.
And i mean more and more people are buying Macs instead of PC's,
wich in result means that it will come more viruses for the Mac platform as well.

For example, yesterday another warning did come from Intego wich is a Mac security company, that there is a program called "Macguard" out there
wich SAYS it is a antivirus application but it's NOT, so do NOT download Macguard. Read more about it on Integos website, on the website you push
BLOG button and there you find it.

However why i would like an ESET Mac antivirus is since i like ESS on my Windows machine now, so i belive that ESET would make a great Antivirus for the Mac as well. Maybe not so ugrent but i belive it will be in a not so far future.

    Cheers, SweX

It's been discussed from the time Inspector Clouseau was Happy Bytes at Eset. The response is always the same "not at this time".

    SweX,

When I read your question it reminded me that there is a version of McAfee VirusScan (corporate version, though) that is compatible with Mac OS. I think the version number stands at 8.6

They offer a 30 days trial, if you want to test it. I can't talk for myself since I'm a Windows user (Win XP Pro SP-3) but you might want to give it a shot.
Just remember that to be able to download it, you have to register first.

    Hope this helps,

    Carlos

    Hi Zyrtec.

Yes i know that Mcafee got an antivirus solution for the Mac,
but many people who have tried it says that it is a resource hog.
But thanks for giving me the tip anyway.

And I also know that Intego, Symantec, Pctools, Mcafee, Avast and some more... do have AV's for the Mac, but the reason why i ask is that i use ESS right now and if it will be possible i would like to stay with ESET since they are quite good at what they do ).

But if ESET isen't interested to develop for the Mac platform then i'll just have to change to another brand that does have products for the Mac.
But who knows ESET maybe change their mind.......sometime.

    Regards, SweX
