Is it possible that at some point that ShadowDefender will be presumed dead and Wilders members will be free to share the software and the required key?

...actually I just realized one of my neighbors is a patent attorney and I will ask his opinion? Of course, it might be interesting to check to see if Shadow Defender was ever patented.

Abandoned software does not become public domain.

Also, whether patented or not, it was copyrighted.

Right! From what I could ascertain, in the US, "As a general rule, for works created after January 1, 1978, copyright protection lasts for the life of the author plus an additional 70 years."

I'm sorry I asked the question. I should have done this research before posting the question.

How long are you guys planning to use SD despite the 'dead' symptoms? 1 year? 2 years? Till Windows 8 pops out? Or for as long as your PC works?

I guess 'til I notice somethin' slipped thru. That day, I'll know for sure it's time to let it rest in peace...

I'll keep using ShadowDefender until Windows 8 is released in 2012. If it still is working with that OS, I will continue using it.

Until Bufferzone finally wakes up and gives us a x64 for Windows 7.
