    I am running Vista.

And in (c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\ there are some files, e.g HOSTS etc.

They all have a timestamp of 19/9/2006 8:41am

But there is one filed called hosts.idx with a stamp 29/1/2009

Anyone know what that file is exactly and is it safe?

When I opened it in text editor, it has unreadable characters.
