Never heard of that happening. Firefox hasn't even had a PDF reader for that long.

I agree though. Adding a PDF reader increases the browser's attack surface. If you're going to do something like that you need to take precautions.

I've seen it numerous times myself, in Firefox, IE, Opera and so on. You can open PDF files in browsers if you're of course prepared, say Sandboxie that is configured to only allow the browser to run. If it tried to run, it would just be shown the door immediately. Even in that case though, I still just disable the plugin out of habit. It's no issue to save the file and open it, just a few seconds of lost time is all. I look at it like this, even if it didn't help anything, disabling the plugins don't hurt anything.

7 finally split the processes, didn't it? I can't remember.

Either way, they need to step it up.

Not from what I read (trying to go through lots of Google searches to confirm though).

I can't find anything either. I was probably mistaken. 7 probably would have been a much bigger deal.

Actually, shouldn't there be numerous FF processes in task manager if this thing is here? If the processes are truly separate that is? If so, no, it's not here, as I'm on 10 Alpha and have a single FF process and the plugin container.

Yeah, that confirms it. There would in fact be multiple processes. Not sure where I got that idea from lol thanks.

No problem. They sure are taking their sweet time. It would at least bring them in line with the other major players to have process separation, as far as basic functions go (I think even Opera has this now? Not certain).

Opera does not. Both use out of process plugins, that's it.

It's a major rewrite for them to do it though. That was something I'd said earlier in the topic - for Firefox to get sandboxing will mean huge rewrites to the code. Chrome was built with it from the start. Opening API's is a lot easier than rewriting the browser.

Yes, I believe it is a bit behind AVs like avast! there.

That is a bit of a downside.

MSE is very popular and it's only going to get more popular with Win8. I think that's why we've seen such a steep decline. When it first came out it was doing really well - it's not that they just haven't been keeping up it's more that malware targets MSE.

Yeah, kinda worrying if you use it though. They seem on the ball a bit with their Malware Protection Centre.
