Please post your feedback, when doing it first time, do the offline defrag with PIOZR enabled, after that do online with PIOZR disabled.

This completely beat similar free defragmenters like Auslogics,Defragger and SmartDefrag, IMO :D

PC run faster on startup, prog loading and browsing. I love it. Boot time defrag keep my PC on peak performance

I've been using Diskeeper (see signature for link) for years. With the 2010 edition, it has real-time frag prevention. My hard drives have been going strong for 9 years with 0 problems or slowdowns. I run it on my server too.

If you don't want the real-time defragging, it has great scheduling tools, run during screensaver mode, boot time, etc..

    Just a great product really.

PerfectDisk 11 services can be disabled in Windows. PD doesn't like it and if you try to run it with them disabled it lets you know about it, but it can be done. :D

i think mydefrag is the best overall , and there is a portable version too

you can move a file for example in an exact point of your hard disk

    is more powerfull then ultimatedefrag

Thanks much! I've been looking at a vertical red line in the regular XP Pro defrag utility for so long now I started seeing red. :D

But after running the boot time defrag, it's finally gone. Maybe it's a bit OCD -- but I just feel better with that section finally defragged. And for a freeware program that allows context right clicking of folders and files...it really can't be beat.

I was a satisfied PefectDisk user, before I tried Puran Defrag, on windows xp. This one is good and fast, and free.

You are welcome, Puran works and works well, no hitches, do boot time once a week with PIOZR enabled and you will see results. Regular defrag doesn't need PIOZR enabled.

Oh, ok -- thanks. I had gotten it backwards. I thought the boot time defrag was not supposed to have the PIOZR enabled, but the regular defrags while still in Windows was. I'll make the adjustment.

Just an update on my previous post. I still like some of the features of Puran Defrag, especially its ability to integrate into Windows Explorer, allowing easy defragging of individual files/folders. But there was one non-system drive on which there was a fragmented $MFT file, and Puran Defrag would not defrag it. I loaded the trial version of PerfectDisk Pro 11 and it did defrag that file. I think that's why some people end up using multipe defrags -- each one has its own strengths/weaknesses.

If I remember correctly, I believe that it was PerfectDisk old version 6, from about 6 years ago, that had a problem with FirstDefense.

Diskeeper 2010 provides a variety of dashboard statistics documenting the benefit delivered by the product. Using this information allows an individual to make an informed and empirical decision regarding the advantages/disadvantages of defragmentation on a home PC.

Subjectively, it is my perception that defragmentation noticeably (but modestly) increases the responsiveness of my workstation.

For those who have not already done so, it may be worthwhile to test the new IntelliWrite feature of Diskeeper 2010 which proactively prevents fragmentation. On my operating system volume, it typically prevents over 90% all fragmentation before it occurs.

For further information, please see Inside Diskeeper 2010 with IntelliWrite.

Earlier I use to defrag my hd but now as I use imaging software(rollback) defragging becomes quite tedious o_O
