Whilst performing some housekeeping recently I came across a ton of language files in my local settings\temp folders. Not sure when this started as I deleted before investigating. However, I soon realised the same approx 15MB was loaded every time I booted. A trial and error exercise of stopping individual items from startup indicates that the problem is Webroot. There are several Webroot programs in startup but these two seem to be the culprits: stopping them cures the problem:
    ……\startup\Install Webroot FF RunOnce.lnk
    ……\startup\Install Webroot IE RunOnce.lnk
I’m not clued in enough to know what to do next. Can anyone point me in the direction to correct this? Do I even need these two items – Webroot loads and seems to run OK when they are stopped?

You need to keep these start up Items as it's fot the Password Manager to work in other limited accounts!

    ……\startup\Install Webroot FF RunOnce.lnk
    ……\startup\Install Webroot IE RunOnce.lnk

And you can delete the one's in the %TEMP% folder make sure you don't delete the one in Local Folder also if you have more in the Local Folder then I would suggest to do a clean reinstall with a reboot in between but before reinstalling you can delete the one's left behind in the Local Folder!

Thanks for the assistance, much appreciated. I should have added that this occurred on a W.XP Pro SP3 system. I have got a W.8.1 machine to which I am slowly migrating and the Webroot Program is set up there exactly as your examples show, but I’ve not yet cracked the different file names and set-ups. I’ve had Prevx and now Webroot for many years and I can’t fathom what has triggered this dumping of temp files every time I startup: I must have deleted close to a GB from
    C:\Documents and Settings\John \Local Settings\Temp
I don’t think it has anything to do with reinstalling but can’t be certain as I don’t have any dates to check. Looks like a reinstall then?

A bit more info: here are the three entries that occurred yesterday – all dated 04/05/2014 20.48

    C:\Documents and Settings\John\Local Settings\Temp\lptmp2124819374 7.47MB

    C:\Documents and Settings\John\LocalSettings\Temp\lptmp2036334290 3.75MB

    C:\Documents and Settings\John\Local Settings\Temp\lptmp1107940026 7.47MB

I guess the subject header should read lptemp, getting fonts and case mixed. Can you change that for accuracy?

That is correct and they can be deleted without issues if you have WSA-Complete or WSA-AV Gamer Version and have System Optimizer it does clean out the Temp folder.
