    Acadia,

Thank you! For searching the new drive - no problem. Just use "Open other Backups" button in Backup Browser and select the folder where you copied the backup files - that's it.

    Kent,

I've looked through the logs, and my initial impression is that one of the backup files disappeared by some reason. Thus AX64 created a full backup to maintain the backup integrity.
But I can't find anything in the logs indicating that AX64 deleted it. Is it possible that you (or a third-party program) deleted one of the files from the backup folder?

For your question - the backup/merge will work with no problem. If you delete the image from 13 hours 47 minutes ago, it will be simply deleted (no merge), because it's the last in chain. Full backup basically started a new chain, so you can delete all backups before that full. But you can also leave them - they are perfectly working if you wish to use them.

    David,

I don't think that EasyBCD has any compatibility issue with AX64. Since none of the recovery media was bootable then it's definitely a problem with BIOS.

    twl845,

Longer backup and "external volume modification" message is normal after you use the recovery media. The reason is that recovery media is like a separate OS that can modify the protected drive, and AX64 will know nothing about it. That's why as soon as it detects that the drive has been modified from within another OS, it enters "re-sync" mode that takes more time to make the following backup (the backup size will be still small). All subsequent backups will perform as normal.

For drive letters - I don't think it's related to recovery media. Sometimeс Windows may change the drive letter assignments. AX64 should detect it automatically and continue backups to the new drive letter.

    Hello Isso,

The drive where I keep the AX64 images is an external drive that is used solely for backups, like full drive backups with IFW, email, program settings, and the like. The drive is never cleaned by any program such as CCleaner and I only delete files from there manually. As far as the AX64 images stored there, I have only deleted/merged incrementals by doing so through the AX64 backup browser. The only program I have that I know of that makes any other type of changes to that drive is Perfect Disk. So, to the best of my knowledge, I have no third party program that would be deleting anything from that drive and I am positive that I have only done so through the backup browser GUI. I am at a total loss as to how an image may have been deleted...

I am sure you have provided for this following scenario, but I thought I would ask anyways. What if the account is logged off, system shutdown or restarted, or goes into hibernation/sleep mode while a merge is in progress? I am sure you have made provisions for this, but is it possible for an image to be deleted in one of these cases?

    Hi Kent,

Thank you for the information. I'll add more logging to the next release to see what could cause this problem. I'll also go through the existing logs once more, maybe I can find a clue.

Therefore, you don't need CD and/or USB as Recovery Media for AX64. You can have AX64 presented to you as a boot menu on boot like Macrium Reflect.

    Best regards,

    Hello Isso,

I'm one of the people that you are marketing for. And it would be good to show more videos on Youtube for the simple people. I have no ideas about snapshot or images but hopefully it will work. Also would this work on a mac system?

    Hi Ronald,

Thank you for your suggestion - I'll see if we can create more videos.
For Mac - no, sorry the program works only in Windows. If you mean Bootcamp - we haven't tested it, but it should work. If anyone used AX64 in Bootcamp, please let me know the results. Thank you

    Guys,

We are proceeding to Recovery Media- related problems, namely the non-bootable Recovery Media for XP that has been reported numerous times.
Anyone experiencing that problem - could you please create a Recovery ISO file, also run msinfo32 on that system and save the .NFO file, then upload those two files somewhere an give me the link? Thank you!

Hi Brian, I followed your instructions and found two (empty) files in the Recovery folder named System32 and Windowsre. No Bootre.wim file in there.

    Hi vaastu,

Thank you for sending the logs. I found no errors in them, so apparently the reason is that your HDD has some bad blocks and the program is unsuccessfully trying to read some of them. Later we'll add a feature to skip such sectors. For now you might try to use some utility to find and repair bad sectors.

Thanks for the instructions. May I ask if you know how can there only be 2 empty files in the recovery folder if Macrium shows the Recovery partition having 14.86GB capacity with 8.61 available? Could it be that Macrium noted that capacity when I installed it, and it stuck after RBRx deleted the System Recovery folder? Thanks in advance.

    Hi Isso,

    Thanks for the reply.

Yes i was meaning Bootcamp - I currenly run win7 64 in bootcamp. I will try this out next weekend and let you know the results after i grab a new external hard disk.

As for the videos my question was more directed at creating a boot disk or USB to boot off and how this could be achieved. And also i noticed for advanced users there was a snapshot method. A few videos on how to do this would be creately apprecciated. As i have never had a problem with any of my computers i have never backed one of them up. But after reading this long thread i think it is about time, just to make sure.

    Thanks
    Ronald.
