yes as administrator. I assume you're referring to the command prompt again. It says file not found.

    Kent,

Yes thanks - it makes perfect sense (I understand how incremental backups work). I just didn't know it was necessary to delete an incremental snapshot in order to effect a consolidation.

OK. I just checked my wife's Win8 UEFI and her result is like yours.

Can you open Folder Options, View tab and remove the tick from Hide Protected OS Files. Can you see the Recovery folder in the C: drive?

    Hi TWL,

This is what I said earlier that I was pulling my hair out, as I couldn't find either WinRE.wim or WinRE.dat in my three computers. I remember at that time both Brian and Pandlouk were trying to help me but I couldn't find the file.

Even ZFactor gave me the WinRE.wim to put it under C:\Recovery and still it didn't work.

Eventually, I had to reinstall Windows 7 by the help of Pandlouk on all three machines. Reinstalling Windows 7 is not so easy as reinstalling Windows XP.

However, if you don't want to reinstall Windows 7, then Carfal method works, plus one more command, which I posted under Carfal method. This is what I mentioned earlier and Isso has already given you the reference to Carfal post.

    Best regards,

    Mohamed

OK I'll go through it and see what happens. I can't find the recovery folder to put the WINRE.win into if I had it. I'm betting I have WINRE.win because I was able to make a recovery media twice successfully. I'm not reinstalling WIN7. ARGH! Thanks again. :)

    Hi TWL,

For "take ownership" for any folder/directory, you need some small program. Carfal post has one, which works under the safe mode. There are others on the net and one is called, "take ownership".

    Best regards,

    Mohamed

P.S. if you need "take ownership" program then I can upload it for you?

Good then I wouldn't worry about it, unless you had to insert Windows 7 DVD/USB to create the AXTM Recovery Media.

    Best regards,

    Mohamed

Do you have a C:\Windows\System32\Recovery folder? (you have to remove the tick from Hide Protected OS Files)

    Guys,

I've published the User Manual for AX64 here

    Isso

EDIT: I realize that most of you don't need it, but I'd appreciate any remarks or suggestions

That is a good user manual.

It uses images and very, very easy to understand words.

Quite often you can be put off trying something because you almost need a university degree just to understand the manual.

    Hi Isso,

After having tested AX64 for months and now on stable, would it be possible for me to get a complimentary key also? Thanks :) PS: I tried to send a PM but it wasn't working.

    Isso,

I really like the way the manual is set up. Very easy to understand pictures, and not too many words describing each step. Very simple to follow.

Hi there i'm using the program now for a couple of days. I have now Backups for 4 days. What stuck a little bit my eye is that i have 5 times a Backup that has the age 3 days and 11h. Maybe i did hit 5 times make bakcup at that time, but that brought me to the questions:

    1. what are the rules for merging existing images (when and which)?
    2. What are the rules for keeping images?

Here you should see the windows recovery menu... which is not displayed...
Run again through command prompt the following command (verbose mode of the previous one)
    bcdedit /enum all /v

You should see similar entries like those displayed in the link bellow
    http://diddy.boot-land.net/bcdedit/files/enum.htm
and here http://forum.acronis.com/forum/6758 is the procedure to fix them.

ps. The winre.wim does not necessarily has to be in the default location. It depends on the manufacturer; it can be inside the OEM partition, the recovery partition, etc.

Hi, thanks for the manual. Just a suggestion regarding the boot media page :
you may want to add F12 which is used on Dell machines to reach the boot menu, without having to change BIOS settings.

Just started following this thread several days ago ... very interesting looking program to say the least. A couple of questions and I apologize if they have been already answered somewhere in this 2000+ posts thread.

At the website I noticed that ax64 is not compatible with ShadowProtect, my favorite imaging program. No problem if ax64 is anywhere near as reliable as SP. But, is ax64 compatible with the built-in Windows7 imaging program, probably is since Windows comes with Windows ;) , but I just want to make sure. If I have to give up ShadowProtect then Windows would become my new "safety net" imaging program.

Finally, is ax64 compatible with Faronic's Deep Freeze?

Thanks much. I've been looking for a replacement for FD-ISR since it has not been supported for a few years and even though ax64 uses different technology, it just might be the excellent replacement. :thumb:

Hi Brian, I removed the tick from hide protective files yesterday morning.
I do have a C:\Windows/System32/recovery folder. When I click Recovery, there's a Re Agent.xml 1KB file in it. Nothing else.
