Does it work if you uncheck "Restore MBR"?

    manolito,

I reproduced this problem and fixed already - next version will work fine. Thanks a lot for helping correcting this major issue!

    Zero3K,

Could you post a screenshot of your backup folder? Also if you close and reopen the program - will the merge work?

    guest,

I fully agree with TheRollbackFrog's reply. He is one of a few people who extensively used both Rollback RX and AX64 Time Machine, so he's actually the expert. Thanks Froggie!

Yes, you certainly can (step 6 equals to image 4, right?). Actually there is no need to set "4" as "0", it will automatically become the "root" after you delete "0,1,2,3". There is just one caveat here: since 0 is the "parent" of both "4" and 1, 2, 3, you first need to delete 1, 2, 3, and only after that you will be able to delete 0.
BTW we have plans to display the snapshots in a "Tree" view - it will represent this kind of backup chains in a much easier to understand way.

I have some suggestions and a bug to report regarding its Backup Browser:

    1. You should add the ability to search for file(s) in a backup.
    2. The highlighting of the button that was last clicked in its main window should be removed.
    3. You should change the Address Bar in its Backup Browser to allow being clicked on and typed into.
    4. In the Backup Browser, there should be a space between the colon and the left parentheses of the drive label.
    5. In the "Tip of the Day" of the Backup Browser, "Show Tips on StartUp" should be "Show Tips on Startup".
    6. There's no need for the sizing bar on the left hand side of the address bar in the Backup Browser.
    7. The Backup Browser should remember the sizes of its columns, etc.
    8. The icons of the files shown in the selected backup aren't displaying properly.

    Hi Isso,

Thanks for all of your work in developing this software. Ive been lurking for quite awhile but haven't commented before, but must say that I like this software a lot. It performs stated goals, but remains basically 'simple'. Excellent.

While testing, I did notice a few things that you might want to investigate/consider.

    1) When restoring from CD, just before starting the selected restore, the status window says "Ready to restore drive E: to snapshot taken at 4/30/13 12:12PM". Shouldn't that be drive C: instead of E:?

    2) Maybe a warning to remove the CD (USB also?) before rebooting would be helpful to a novice.

Thanks again for all your effort !!!

Hi john! I think that msg reflects the correct drive but since AXTM's recovery CD is based on the included WinRE image, that Windows image may see the physical drive differently than the Windows system that produced the snapshots... the physical drive is the correct one, though.

Definitely agree with that one. I've reBOOTed back into the RECOVER CD many times, by accident, while testing

    Isso,

I have been following this thread since the beginning. I have downloaded build 1.0.967 and can't wait for the final version. Thank you for all the hard work you are doing to release this fine product.

    Sincerely,
    Ron

Just tested and it also fails. AX64 just closes and the PC doesn't reboot. When I then manually reboot there is no change to my system, i.e. nothing restored.

    Froggie,
Right ... since booting from CD has assigned C: to the CD, the "original" C: has been reassigned to E:. Understand, but it will still be confusing. Maybe using the volume name, instead of the drive letter, would be better?

And you are right above, the drive that's restored is definitely the right one - no problem there, just what it's called is confusing.

Hi again, John! The problem with using the volume name is that AX64 has plans in the Commercial +1 release to allow users to restore backed up partitons to any partition they'd like, regardless of size, etc. (at least I think that's what Isso's gonna do). So referencing the original volume name, which is all AXTM can know, might also be confusing to people trying to restore to a different partition. I'm really not sure how this is best solved at that point... maybe a reference to the original partition name and the destination partition names available at that time (unless it's an unallocated chunk of space which I think they will support also ;) )

    Thank you John!

    1) I agree it's confusing, but frankly I have no idea what can be done about it. I could display the volume label, but most of the users don't label their volumes. You can just trust the program, because it won't restore to a non-matching volume.

    2) I agree - I was going to add a prompt to CD to ask the user to press a button to boot from it. Will it do?

    Scoobs72,

Looks like something doesn't allow the program to write to the drive. Sorry, I have no idea about what might be the reason, and I don't remember to ever seen anything like what you've described. I'll try to figure out what's happening, meanwhile could you please collect the logs (Click on top left corner of the program, then select About, then Collect Logs) and send them to me to info@ax64.com. Thank you

Froggie, you are absolutely right. I think that the only proper way for Pro version would be to display the disks graphically, so the user can choose the destination.
In current version however the program automatically selects the destination and there is no need to even care about the letter - if the restore dialog is up, that means the program has detected the right partition and restore will be just fine.

Is there any way to have the recovery environment have the hard drives be assigned drive letters before the other devices are assigned them?

EDIT: I think there might be an issue with it and VSO Downloader (http://www.vso-software.fr/products/downloader/vso-downloader.php). When I try to restart with just VSO Downloader running and it installed, VSO Downloader doesn't want to be closed right away.

Isso, you're a genius. I'm able to copy backed up files to my W7 box. On windows 7 I was trying to copy to a limited user account, not an admin account. Once I used an admin account, it wasn't a problem. I'm still am having no luck with mounting on either box. :D Thanks.
