I would think the corruption is the issue. Not really the presence of those drivers. If you have corruption, you have other problems.

I have apparently had them since last September (when I installed Win8 ). Never noticed anything wrong. I didn't even know I had those until someone posted about that in this forum.

System Restore adds them them and leaves them behind too, so even Windows does the same with their own driver in this case.

System Restore creates them and uses them for its restore points. I have only seen them when VSS is in use (IFW, Macrium, AXTM, etc.) but they go away (in the case of AXTM) when the Full/Incremental is finished.

Sounds like a real Windows bug to me...

If it's a bug, then it goes as far back as Vista. If you google it, you'll find people reporting the same thing from way back then.

I decided to have fun tonight.

I've had AX64 installed since the morning and had it taking its hourly snapshot all day. Just to be safe, I also took a Macrium image of my machine.

Then I trashed it. I deleted files from C:\Windows, deleting files from the root of C: and made sure I emptied the recycling box. Not everything could be deleted because if was accessed by the system, but a reboot just killed my setup. Couldn't boot back into Windows. The system was hosed.

I used the CD I burned earlier to get into AX64 and recovered in 2 minutes flat. Everything back to operational status. A restore with Macrium would've taken over an hour. You could say that RBX10 does the same. True, but AX64 doesn't trick the OS and file system to hack a similar solution. Not to mention that RBX10 does NOT backup anything.

AX64 could easily replace Macrium for me as a daily backup solution. Isso, your product is changing the game for me. I still need Macrium for restoring to different hardware, but it will be limited to the odd upgrade activities now instead of daily use. Awesome product!!

I have a few suggestions to submit:

1 - Please consider keeping more hourly backups during the day before starting to merge. I'd like to have enough hourly backups to cover a work day instead of only having snapshots for the last 3 hours. Or give that as part of an advanced option. Specify the number of hourly snapshots to keep before merging.

2 - Please allow the specification of a subfolder for the backup destination. If I have two machines backing up to a NAS, they're both forced to go to Z:\AXTM. An advanced setting feature would be good where we can set that destination to something else than a hardcoded "AXTM" folder.

I am also unable to boot into the rescue media. Whether I put it on a USB thumbdrive or burn it on DVD, the environment loads and blue screens immediately. Then it reboots within half a second so I don't get a chance to see what the error is.

ISSO, I see that as mentioned earlier the 30 day Trial has been applied to V1.0.967. Are you confident that the final release will be available comfortably prior to the 30 day expiration? :)

I don't think the countdown is operational yet. It was "30 days left" yesterday and it still has "30 days left" today.

I second that. Only ideally I would like to have enough hourly backups to cover two work days (and since the PC is working through the night, it should be something like 35 hourly snapshots). Also more automatic backup triggers would be great (e.g. at logon/startup (with delay) logoff/shutdown).

    Isso,

Does your reply to MPSAN, as quoted above, apply to my Intel RST RAID configuration (of which you are aware)? ...in other words, if I can build a bootable PE recovery disk (using my Intel RST drivers) can I then simply copy those 3-files to that PE disk in order to do a cold-restore?

Other than your recovery media builder being unable to discover/include the Intel RST drivers necessary to boot my laptop, build 967 seems to be working fine!

    Regards,
    Cruise

Mine was 30 yesterday and is 29 today. Maybe you did the update later in the day than I did and will change any minute. :)

I tried to do that and it complained that OLEDLG.DLL was missing. So I copied the file from SysWoW64 and it crashed on start. copied the same DLL from System32 instead and AXTMImageBrowser.exe crashes as well.

My CD did exactly as yours. At 62.5% the cd ejected. I took the CD out to look at it, and placed it back in the tray then closed the tray. Immediately the CD drive wound up and completed the Recovery disk. I think perhaps Isso might want to look at this. Could it be a bug? o_O

This has been requested previously and Isso has indicated that he hopes it will be available somewhere between 3 and 5 months from now as part of an update.

 sounding more and more like RollBack Rx, but I too would like these features as optional components.

 sounding more and more like RollBack Rx,,,, I too would like these features as optional components in addition to a days worth of snaps before consolidating. The user being able to determine this for him or herself would be ideal.

    Hello,

I also tried this method and get the same error as MarcP. I now have a couple of questions that may pertain to why I got this error. Bear with me as I am not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to WinPE or WinRE.
    • I do not have a WinPE media, so I tried this by copying the three files to a WinRE media. Should this work?
    • You use both "embed" and "copy" in your instructions. What I did was copy the three files, so is this the same thing as embed?
    Thanks...

Well, a days worth of hourly snapshots (let's say 10) would be the minimum for me to use AX64 as my only day-to-day safety net. Everything else I would consider a bonus :)

Great idea, thank you, added to the feature list. Also I guess mounting by double-clicking backup file would be helpful.

    That would be great.

Oh, I seem to have missed a lot of posts. Froggie, thanks again for your help. Sevenstar, what TheRollbackFrog mentioned is absolutely correct. I.e. it might quite be because of the format change. However we aren't going change it anymore, so this problem should not happen again.

For mounting - do you experience what TheRollbackFrog described, or something else?

    Hi Satnick,

Thanks for considering the program. Unfortunately AX64 is currently limited only to a single volume (partition). Later we do have plans to introduce multiple volume support.
For PerfectDisk or other similar soft - no problem, you can use it, the only side effect might be increased snapshot size after you run them.

Hi puff-m-d, I concur, according to my tests this is a system-specific phenomenon that happens with any software that uses VSS.

Thank you Marc, I'm happy to hear that the program passed your test!

For custom backup schedule as well as custom folder specification - these are already in the feature list and will be implemented in the future versions.

For failing recovery media - could you please upload the ISO file somewhere and send the link to me? Thank you

    twl845,

I hope so :) But don't worry, I'll provide everyone with keys regardless of the final release date
