Brian... quick question. Do you remember if the resized partition was shortened at the front or rear of the existing partition? Just curious.

And I assume the new 450mB created partiton became the ACTIVE BOOT thru element, replacing the ol' 300mB partition, yes?

    TRF,

In two out of the three computers it was the end of the Win8 partition. A resize 450 MB smaller.

The third computer, I'm not sure as it was the first one I noted with the two Recovery partitions. I was having trouble accepting that there was a new Recovery partition but it definitely wasn't due to an OS resize as Win8 was the same size. Maybe the backup partition was resized but I'll never know as I did some resizing myself shortly afterwards.

On a UEFI system there is no Active partition. So I imaged the old Recovery partition and then deleted it. Win8 still runs fine.

The WinRE.wim in the 450 MB partition is larger than the one in the 300 MB partition. But it is less than 300 MB so it could have fitted in the old partition, although that doesn't happen.

I have tried windows 8 and 8.1 but always find myself returning to windows 7. I don't want to use my computer like a tablet, I have a Ipad for that. TM version 1.4.1.48 still working with out problems on my Windows 7 system.

Talk about tempting fate, had my first hot restore failure an hour after writing the above, froze at 0%, a reboot and a second attempt solved the problem.

Dear AX 64 Time Machine, please, please, I'm begging you, don't morph into oblivion! You are the greatest thing to hit PCs since the internet. I have a retired Dell XP PC and a Vista laptop that Comodo Time Machine worked flawlessly on. When I built this W7 SP1 I was about ready to purchase Rollback when I read here about the horrors. Saved by the bell! I'd resigned myself to slow, standard imaging when you came on the seen. You are amazing and I want you available for perhaps W9 or whatever you want to call it. I'd gladly pay for a version that would be compatible with it.
So again, please, please do not abandon us! Sincerely, A Happy Camper

    Amen!

Maybe I'm just impatient, but the very slow pace and lack of communication from the devs is beginning to take on the appearance of a Comodo TM scenario. I certainly hope not.

Yeah... I keep thinking about this anomaly as far as that W8.1 update is concerned.

Not only would this screw up AXTM and its ability to continue incrementally snapshotting its original baseline (if it can't detect this change and start an additional baseline), but I would think the same thing would happen with any imager using either incremental or differential imaging.

I think I'll carry this discussion on in a new THREAD...

Unfortunately, AX64's uninstaller does not do a complete (clean) job. After uninstalling AX64 I was left with its startup console (as mentioned in an earlier post)! How can I get rid of it?

    Hi Cruise :)

Here is a link from ax64.com, with details regarding the local storage option. In the thread, Froggie describes the process. It really *should* uninstall itself, but that is not the case unfortunately. Here is the link with info I think will help you:

    http://ax64.uservoice.com/forums/20...-do-i-prevent-ax64-recovery-option-when-compu

Scroll through the thread, details are there. Apparently, the issue with uninstalling local boot option was not properly included in the AXTM uninstall routine. Here is the process in a nustshell:

Quoting Froggie: "...and last but not least, re-Install AX64 TM, and re-Install the "Local Storage. Now before you unInstall AX64 once again, unInstall the "Local Storage" option in the same place you installed it, then unInstall AX64... all clean."

    Hope this helps Cruise :)

    Jim

Thanks Jim - actually, I tried that a while ago, but that Uninstall button was greyed-out and woudn't run. I'll look into the Startup tab under MSconfig and see what I can find (sorry to say AX64 just hasn't been a joy for me)!

At this point in time I don't see where Revo Uninstaller is applicable - as I already uninstalled AX64 (several weeks ago). That uninstall left me with an orphaned boot console and that is what has been 'bugging me'. Now, after finally removing the (useless) boot console, I performed a final cleanup with CCleaner's tools and my system seems to be running well. :thumb:

    Hummm
Hummm $40 for a program to un-install the program I use to prevent me from having to un-install tested programs (AX64),,,,,thats $40 for the un-installation of 1 program. Seems a bit expensive.

The cost to un-install one program is $0. No charge for 30 days. In the case of AX64, uninstalling can be an issue. CCleaner will miss a lot. I have found Revo does a very good job. It found a decent amount of bits and pieces after running both the AX64 un-installer and CCleaner and got me back to where I wanted to be.
    Again, free for a month.

I use this for other programs and it works great. I believe that only the Pro version costs money. I have always used the free version...NOT the Pro.

Interesting. Thanks Masterblaster. Next time I need such a program I'll give it a try. I'll run one after the other just to see. Jeez, getting off topic here, but not much else to talk about.

Soft organiser is the best uninstaller I have used. Includes the ability to remove files and registry entries after a uninstall reboot.

Normally $30 but free giveaway here:

Guys, take heed. Software uninstallers other then the software makers can be dangerous. The issue here was simply not removing the boot menu item prior to uninstall.

...and to follow up on Pete's comment above, these weren't REGISTRY or left over file issues, it's an issue with the BCDstore, which I know of no "uninstaller" which deals with that part of the system. But there may be one out there... who knows.
