Would someone take a look at my Post #5791. Why does v1.3.0.7 not view or open a backup made to a NAS drive?
    Thank you.

Has anyone tried the new ShadowProtect 5.1.4.32348 version with AXTM 1.3.0.7 on Win 8 or 8.1 x64?

    Waj,

Is this new update of RealCopy the one that will allow a restore to dissimilar equipment for XP to 7?

    Thanks,
    Chamlin

I get an issue where the desktop will load but the USB keyboard and mouse aren't functional after a restore. I've put Malwarebytes Pro's service on Automatic Delayed Start instead of Automatic and at least the first test, no issue! We'll see! Unfortunately I've never had Boot Log enabled when this happens.

Try this: Once the machine is up as far as it will come, reboot it again. I will sometimes do this after a restore, Ax64 or not.

I have to force shutdown since the mouse is dead. I usually boot into Safe Mode and restart from there and indeed the restore is successful.

    Hi Folks

Maybe a new thread, I don't know, but lets not clutter up this thread which should be more about the software and support with name suggestions.

    OK, OK!

Pete, don't you have some 32 bit XP systems that you use AX64 on? I have asked if I am the only one to notice that when my rescue disk boots, it says that it is XP Pro SP2. I can not imagine why mine always says that, but have not heard of anyone else noticing that.

I use it on 2 XP SP3 systems, but to tell you the truth, I've never noticed. I pop the CD in and don't pay much attention until I have to give it the letter, then walk away until it's booted.

Fortunately since I've figured out what is going on I haven't needed the CD.

Oh now that I think about it I think you are right. Not sure it matters though.

    Hi Chamlin,

This version does not work on XP at the moment. Will do in the future. Sorry to disappoint.

    Thanks,

OK, the reason I ask is that my Wireless USB mouse will not work from the cd and I need to install my PS/2 mouse before I boot. I had seen this mentioned before re: XP and wondered if the SP2 thing could have anything to do with it?

MPSAN, that doesn't sound like a driver issue at all. All wireless receivers for RF or Infrared mice look like USB hardwired mice (not PS2), which don't need special drivers at all.

But what they do need is to have the USB LEGACY MODE turned on in the BiOS... that's where I've seen this type of problem before.

Good info...I will see if it is on. As I said, it does work if I attach the PS/2 Mouse, but is a PITA to get it.

    Tip for AX64 developers:

On manual association of AX64 backup files extension AXD with the AXTM Image Browser (file AXTMImageBrowser.exe) the backup files get the Image browser's icon for easier identification and the particular snapshot can be smoothly and directly opened in the browser, even when the program was not started before. It would be worthwhile to have this done by the installation process...:)

    Hi
Following the discussions, I'm seriously wondering if there is any Benefit in changing to Windows 8.1 relating to Overall-performance.
    Am I wrong ?

Just an update on Peter2150's theory about security software and AX64's hot recovery issues, namely at least on this x64 W7 SP1 system, a frozen desktop. Since I've enabled the Malwarebytes Pro service to Automatic (Delayed Start) AX has been flawless.
During the past year I've read dozens of posts in this thread about freezing during restore from the browser. In my situation it would load the desktop and it would appear, for the most part, normal but neither the USB connected keyboard or mouse were functional. I don't know what other users freezings constituted.
    Thanks again Peter!

Just to compare. All restores freeze the desktop for me. I assume that is so the system isn't active. But the window that ax64 shows a progression count to 100% and the system reboots and is fine.

When I had hot restores fail, the count progression in the small dos windows would stop. After a while I would power reset, and I was left with an unbootable system. Then the recovery CD was used and always worked.

Apaert, I would NEVER change an OS to just improve the performance of a single application. If there's something that OS provides that I absolutely have to have (AKA "need"), then I would consider it.

If you're talking about the OS' performance itself, I have seen absolutely nothing in W8.1 that warrants a change at this time... either from W8 or W7, especially as far as a desktop configuration is concerned.

If TOUCH is important for you then W8 would be a decent move.

    Hello Froggie:

Well, I did force USB to Legacy. It was on Auto, but it did not matter. My KB is PS/2 and my mouse is USB. I tried something...I also have a USB KB, and when I boot from the CD and have both a usb mouse AND KB, neither will work. They do work in Windows, so it makes me think that the Rescue CD I make from AX64 is NOT picking up USB drivers.
