    Hi taotoo,

Sorry for that problem. What's the size of that USB stick? There is a minimum of 512 MB. Thank you

    twl845,

Yes, it's in progress. I hope we can finish it within a month. I'm not sure that it will end this thread though :)

Holy cow, Boss... you're right (as usual)! What a great piece of information from the "Crap! I never knew that!" department.

Thanks for the tip... and I apologize for the mis-information, I never knew that (along with a lot of other things).

What?! As a VP you are supposed to know everything! We need to get rid of that "Crap!.." department :D

PS. Oh yes I do remember that I haven't paid your 30% share of the $3.82 sales. I promise to pay it within next 6 months :)

That'll be great! Thanks! I would think that eventually folks will use the forum in one of the categories and this thread will dwindle down to new subscribers comments. I will Speed Dial it immediately.

Well, I too was unaware that this was the case. In the past I did not wait to find out and just put the existing files in a folder and started a new chain. This is good news and I suspect it would be a good piece of info to put in the FAQ list.

It just keeps getting better and better. Thanks Isso

Very interesting,,,,and rather cool. I am doing a restore from the recovery media and I see that the clock in the AX64 Browser is ticking away. That is, the times on the snap shots keep updating every 5 min of so. I wonder what will happen when the clock rolls around to the top of the hour. I doubt that a new snap will be made, but then I would never have thought the times would be updated either.

Too cool, Isso, you guys are amazing.

Nope, as expected, no snap taken,,,,, but the clock keeps ticking away.

    taotoo,

That's very strange. AX64 just gets the list of removable devices and filters by size (greater then 512MB). Can you see that drive in Windows Explorer?

Thank you bgoodman, I agree it's a good idea to place it to the FAQ. If even Froggie didn't know that then hardly any other user would.

    EDIT: FAQ updated

    Hi Isso,

Yes, it shows up in Windows Explorer, and I can copy files to it manually. Is their any other logic to the display of USB sticks that I can check on?

That's an interesting question... it shows as a local drive (see attachment).

Just found out that the recovery media can only do restore, but can not do cold imaging. Are you planning on adding this feature in future versions of recovery media, isso? Like the recovery media of Acronis, Paragon or Macrium does?

If you think that this is a feature that AXTM should have or should be considered for inclusion you can suggest it over at the AX64.com site...and other users can vote/comment on the suggestion.

    Hi Isso,

After a bit of googling it looks like newer SanDisk USB sticks are not compatible:

"NOTE: SanDisk is beginning production of flash drives configured as fixed disk in 2012 to meet new requirements for Windows 8 Certification."

"NOTE: SanDisk does NOT support configuring flash drives as bootable device for running an OS."

    source:
    http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/12830/kw/fixed disk

Do you happen to know if current Apacer sticks show up as removable and will therefore work?

Is there a way to leave the recovery CD in the DD and not have it go to the recovery menu when starting my computer? I would prefer to hit a key in the boot process to have it boot off the CD.

    Oliver,

We have plans to add it, although at this moment it's not the priority, sorry.

OK thank you taotoo, now it's clear to me. We'll modify the program so it takes into account this type of USB sticks too. I'm not sure about Apacer, but I never met a USB stick that presents itself as a fixed drive, so there might be good chances that any other stick would work.

    Masterblaster,

Just re-create the recovery CD with the latest version 1096 - we've added "Hit any key to continue" to it.

Thanks Isso, I look forward to the new version. I'm a bit surprised they're not all like this already if indeed it's true that it's Microsoft's new requirement for Windows 8.
