    Duh. Correct that is.

Using PrivaZer for daily periodic deep disc cleaning disables it sometimes.

Thanks for the tip Brian K

Open a command prompt and type "powercfg -h on" to enable hibernation. Then the checkbox appeared for me to disable. It's all in the original link provided.

    Dear Mohamed,

I really appreciate this information, I was able to reproduce this on one of my Win 8 test laptops. Will work on the fix. Thank you!

For giveaway - thank you for the detailed information. I believe the best method would be a crippled version, but it takes some time to execute, so I guess I rather go with option of giving away the older version (I think it's better to upset non-paying customers than paying customers). I'll think a little bit more about this.

    Hi Easter,

Thank you very much for kind words, and for the information on Windows 8 hybrid boot. This makes me think that we need to test AX64 in both scenarios - with that option on and off. Thank you

    Brian,

Thank you! I now understand why recent Linux NTFS driver refuses to mount a partition that has hibernated Windows 8 on it.

why bother? I used "powercfg -h off" to disable hibernation altogether. I believe it's even safer this way than disabling fast startup option while you have hibernation option enabled.

How about half off for a couple of days. You get new paying customers.
Existing customers can take advantage as well by getting another year for when their current license reaches runs out of updates.
(unless renewal is already half price)
Just an idea instead of a giveaway.

I have never seen this, so, sorry if this has been explained somewhere else:

I just created a first 'initial' backup on Windows 7, and I get 2 files for this single backup:

    1) with .axb extension (12,298 kb)
    2) with .axd extension (6,420,118 kb)

    Both are named equally.

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Fingol,

Yes, certainly we'll be conducting sales once in a while. I was just thinking of a giveaway as another method to get bigger audience.

New major versions will be half price for the existing customers BTW.

    atomomega,

.axb is the backup of your system hidden partition (Windows 7 creates it during install). axd is the backup of the main partition.

    Understood.

    Thank you very much Isso.

BTW, regarding the files you requested, do I gather them from all pc's I've been having trouble with or just one would be enough?

I've got a problem with AX64 on W7. After the first backup, all ok but now everytime I try to open the program it crashes, it doesn't let me do anything. It opens up the GUI but a few seconds after, it crashes... I get the 'AXTM App stopped working' message. Already tried uninstalling/reinstalling. No luck...

    Has anybody else seen this?

EDIT: Weird... I was running it from the desktop shortcut and from the start menu shortcut and I was having the problem described above. Now, I just tried running it from the Program Files folder and it opened up flawlessly... go figure... o_O

Why don't you restore to a previous good snapshot?

I do one backup a day. I am backing up on a 60 GB flash drive with 59.6 GB available. At the beginning all went well and after first backup was complete there was about 25 GB used. As I made daily backups the drive slowly filled as expected. When I had about 3/4 of drive filled I began deleting older backups to make more room. This worked for a bit, but soon deleting older backups only increased the info on the flash drive. I deleted everything on the drive hoping to begin again. When I went to make my first backup there was no room on the flash drive as AX64 informed me the backup size was larger then 60 GB. What am I not understanding and how can I fix this.

    Hi twl845,

Yeah, that's exactly what I did. Once I was able to open up AX64 GUI, I went back to my first backup. All ok now, except for the fact the icon doesn't show in Start Menu nor on the task bar, it's just one of those 'default' icons with a white sheet and a little dialog inside. But that's just a minor issue I guess... :)

Did you format it as NTFS? If so, then you may try wiping your drive with CCleaner.
    Worth a try, I think. ;)

Hello atomomega...I formatted correctly and used CCleaner and Privazer before reinstalling. Although AX64 informed me there was no room on the drive I went ahead and tried a first snapshot after posting here. It worked. That is good obviously, but I wonder why the drive kept filling as I deleted older snapshots. Maybe first problem(drive being too small) and second problem(drive growing after deletes) is a bug....maybe not o_O

How about a BitsDuJour sale at a steep discount?

I understand that its not advisable to use AX64 along with Shadow Defender but does the same hold true for other lite virtualization programs like Sandboxie or Returnil? If these sorts of programs can be used which would be the best of the light virtualization programs to use.

As someone wrote above AX64 is reactive while Shadow Defender is pro-active. I would prefer, if possible, to have both layers of security in place if I have to open a file or e-mail I am not certain of.

I don't know. With all due respect, I've always thought that the 'layered approach' is just a commercial gimmick to make people think they will actually be safer by piling up software.

I can say that since relying on imaging/snapshot technology (Macrium Reflect and AX64) I've been running without any other security software other than Windows Firewall, No Autorun (USB protection) and Google Chrome with security extensions. Of course, a fully updated OS too.

    atomomega,

This might be related to the defragmentation problem (under XP) that you previously mentioned. Please wait for the next version to be released - we fixed this already. For now I recommend you to not defragment your system drive until you install the next version.

    Rainwalker,

Indeed, there is a problem with reclaiming the free space (when deleting the snapshots) in the current release. However we already fixed it and the next version will be working properly.

    bgoodman,

Great idea, thank you. I already talked to them and AX64 will be on BitsDuJour soon.
