Intel’s own website leaks Tiger Lake CPU event happening in early September
With a possible GPU briefing next week

A few weeks ago, Intel teased that “something big” is happening on September 2nd. Now, thanks to the event calendar on the company’s own investor relations site (and eagle-eyed Twitter user @SteakisGood for spotting it), we have confirmation that this is when Intel plans to talk more about its 10nm 11th Gen Tiger Lake CPUs, the ones featuring its anticipated Xe graphics.

Acer has already promised machines that feature the new processor, so perhaps we’ll hear more about OEM support.

Another notable date on the calendar is even sooner. Next week, on August 13th, Intel is hosting an event called “Updates from our Chief Architect, Raja Koduri.” We suspect the company will be providing more details about its first discrete GPU, the DG1, which it announced back at CES 2020.

The Core i3-1115G4 sports a dual-core design with Hyper-Threading, just like any other mobile Core i3 chip. Notwithstanding, the Tiger Lake chip should outperform its Ice Lake predecessor with relative ease. For starters, the Core i3-1115G4 has the new Willow Cove microarchitecture, allowing the Tiger Lake part to carry up to a 50% larger L3 cache. Intel produces the Tiger Lake lineup on its 10nm++ manufacturing process, meaning the clock speeds should be improved over Ice Lake's 10nm+ node.

As always with Intel, improvement in the number of cores is ultra conservative. Fortunately AMD has been improving their CPU's tremendously over the past years.
While Intel is announcing a new dual-core mobile CPU, in AMD's Ryzen 3 mobile series, which are already available, even the cheapest model is already a quad core(Ryzen 3 4300U), they don't even have dual core models anymore.

At CES 2020, Intel first announced its upcoming mobile PC processors code-named Tiger Lake. The Tiger Lake processors will be built on Intel’s 10nm+ process for improved performance. Intel is slated to announce its 11th-gen U-series Tiger Lake processors during its upcoming September 2 event. The firm has promised “something big” for the event, which is most likely the next-generation chips that are based on the 10nm+ process, with the “double digit” gains for the company’s new integrated Xe graphics architecture.

Earlier this month, a leaked spec sheet for an HP product suggested that the Core i7-1165G7 – a Tiger Lake-U chip – could come with boost clock speeds of up to 4.8GHz. Now, more evidence in the form of Geekbench scores have been spotted by Twitter user APISAK (via TomsHardware) that corroborates those figures.
The listing for a Core i7-1185G7, likely the top-of-the-line SKU, clocks a base frequency of 2.99GHz and a boost frequency of 4.79GHz.

What is more interesting is that the Gen12 graphics boasts 96 execution units – up from the 64 units in the Ice Lake-U’s Gen11 based Iris plus graphics – and is clocked at 1.55GHz.

In addition to the Core i7 benchmarks, folks over at TomsHardware also spotted a listing for a Core i5-1135G7 running on an Acer Aspire laptop. The processor clocks a base frequency of 2.4GHz and boosts to 4.19GHz.

It's one of the worst kept secrets out there, but Intel announced its 11th-generation processors for thin and light laptops today. Codenamed Tiger Lake, it's the second generation of the firm's 10nm process, following Ice Lake.

There's a lot going on here. It has Intel's new Iris Xe graphics, and the firm is promising 2.7x faster content creation and 2x faster gaming. According to Intel, it's better than 90% of discrete GPUs that are paired with U-series processors, and while it didn't say so explicitly, it's probably targeting Nvidia's GeForce MX series.

That's not all though. These CPUs support Intel's new Thunderbolt 4 and PCIe 4.0, both of which will provide some pretty serious improvements. Thunderbolt 4 is what today, we'd call a "full" Thunderbolt 3 port.
While we've talked about all of that new graphics power, Thunderbolt 4, and PCIe, there are improvements in the CPU as well. Intel changed up quite a bit with its lineup, all of which has higher clock speeds.

Intel has officially announced its first 11th Gen Tiger Lake processors for laptops, which will feature the company’s new integrated Xe graphics, Thunderbolt 4 support, Wi-Fi 6, and a big leap in performance and battery life over the previous Ice Lake chips. The company claims that the new 11th Gen lineup offers the “best processor for thin-&-light” laptops.

Alongside the new chips, Intel is debuting a new iteration of its Project Athena certification standard, called “Intel Evo.” Evo will have even higher requirements, including a guarantee that your laptop will offer over nine hours of “real world” use on a single charge (for 1080p systems), fast charging (for four hours of charge in 30 minutes), Wi-Fi 6 and Thunderbolt 4, and system wake in “less than a second.”

Intel has just announced its new 11th Gen processors, and alongside the launch, the company is also rolling out a new minimalist logo — the third logo that the company has ever used. Intel held a launch event today for its next-generation laptop CPU family, codenamed Tiger Lake. There wasn't much new information about Tiger Lake itself, though—if you followed our coverage of Intel Architecture Day last month, you already know most of the technical detail covered at today's event.
Conclusion
We're hesitant to make any firm proclamations about hardware we've only seen a few limited videos of—Intel has had a very rough couple of years, its marketing hasn't always been the most accurate, and it desperately needs a win here. Its side-by-side "against the competition"—meaning Ryzen 4800U—videos are quite compelling, but we'll need direct third-party testing to see just how much of the advantage shown might require an artificially narrow workload.

What we are pretty confident about is that Tiger Lake looks like a much more meaningful competitor for AMD than Intel has been able to field for the last few cycles.

Intel is taking on rival AMD with its 11th-generation Core processors for ultra-thin laptops that the chipmaker says is faster than its competitors‘ Ryzen 4000 mobile processors.

The new lineup, code-named Tiger Lake and announced Wednesday, consists of nine processors that feature up to four cores, eight threads, a 3 GHz base frequency and a 4.8 GHz turbo frequency as well as a new generation of integrated graphics powered by Intel‘s Xe low-power GPU microarchitecture.

“When we say it‘s the world’s best processor, it isn’t an exaggeration,” Gregory Bryant, executive vice president and general manager of Intel’s Client Computing Group, said in a live presentation.
