Intel is set to reveal next-generation high-end desktop processors, dubbed Cascade Lake-X, next month, according to Tom's Hardware.

The chipmaker touted that its new "relative performance-centric processors will offer more "relative performance per dollar" over the previous Skylake-X CPUs - some 1.74 to 2.09 times improvement - as well championing more performance than AMD's Threadripper 2990WX, because of course, it would.
From what we've seen so far, we expect the processors to come with something akin to 18 cores and 32 threads, similar to the Skylake-X CPUs but offer an improvement in clock speed and efficiency. [...] 14-nanometre process [...]

Luckily, Intel also showed off its Core i9-9900KS, which Tom's Hardware spotted was seen running at 5GHz across all eight of its cores, which is certainly a solid showcase of performance to keep AMD and it's core-heavy chips on their toes.

If you have $600 (around £487) burning a hole in your pocket for a new PC component, you might want to splash out on an Intel Core i9-9900KS.
At least that's what it looks like it'll cost you, if a premature posting of the price by Australian tech retailer Mwave, spotted by Tom's Hardware, is to be believed.

$600 (AUS$899) seems in the right ballpark, as the Core i9-i9900KS is effectively a specially selected Core i9-9900K picked out chip pile as it promises better performance.
We have no idea what the thermal design power of the processor will be or much in the way of extra details, but for folks who want a high-performance Intel desktop CPU, this chip could be the one for you.

Intel slashes prices alongside its update of Core X-series chips

Intel has updated its Core-X lineup, this time basing it on the Cascade Lake series of processors.

Four chips in all have been released, with the Core i9-10980XE Extreme Edition being the beefiest of the bunch. The 10980XE has the lowest base speed, at 3GHz, but it has the highest number of cores at 18, and the largest L3 cache with 24.75MB in total.
At the other end of the Core-X spectrum, the Core i9-10900X has the highest base frequency at 3.7GHz, but has almost half the number of cores by comparison with 10, and has 19.25MB of cache.

The other two chips, the 10940X and 10920X, have 14 and 12 cores operating at 3.3GHz and 3.5GHz respectively, alongside 19.25MB of cache.
Alongside the new chips, Intel has halved the price of its top-of-the-line Core i9 processors.

The Intel Core i9-9900KS officially launches on Oct. 30 for $513

Intel’s only major desktop CPU release in 2019, the Core i9-9900KS, is almost ready to hit store shelves and review test benches. It’s not a major release when compared with the likes of AMD’s Ryzen 3000 debut in July, but it’s still the most exciting desktop development from Intel in 2019, and it does break some boundaries.
Most notably, it’s the first 5GHz, all-core CPU that can hit those frequencies right out of the box without a sniff of overclocking.

The only real reason to consider the 9900KS is because you were already thinking of buying a 9900K and this new CPU offers slightly greater performance for a slightly greater price of $513. The standard 9900K started at $450.
The 9900KS will be officially available on October 30 for a price of $513.
