Intel has unveiled its latest 10th Gen Intel Core processors, previously code-named Comet Lake, for laptops. These chips promise double-digit performance gains on the prior generation.

Ran Senderovitz, vice president of mobile platform marketing at the Intel client computing group, said in a briefing that the eight new 14-nanometer U-Series and Y-Series chips are targeted for productivity in thin-and-light laptops, both in consumer and commercial devices.
Comet Lake’s integrated graphics solution has double the performance of the previous generation.

The performance is 16% better than the previous generation on general performance, and it is 41% faster on Microsoft Office. Compared to a five-year-old PC, Comet Lake is 2.5 times to 3 times faster.
Ice Lake and Comet Lake chips work in the same thermal envelope, from around 10 watts to 25 watts.

"Ice Lake’s architecture, Sunny Cove, will have hardware fixes for the Spectre and Meltdown architectural flaws that caused so much consternation among hardware manufacturers and software developers over the past year. So far we’ve seen microcode fixes for many of the most affected, recent-generation chips, and some of Intel’s ninth-generation chips implemented hardware fixes for specific instances of these exploits.

Intel has confirmed, however, that Ice Lake will go well beyond that, potentially representing the first CPU generation from Intel to mitigate major Spectre variants at the silicon level. That may also mean some of the performance-impacting stop-gap solutions protecting users against these exploits will not be present, although most think it unlikely that Ice Lake will be able to halt all the potential exploit paths..."

The interesting question—and one largely left unanswered by Intel—is why the company has decided to launch a new line of 14nm notebook CPUs less than a month after launching Ice Lake, its first 10nm notebook CPUs.
Both the Comet Lake and Ice Lake notebook CPU lines this month consist of a full range of i3, i5, and i7 mobile CPUs in both high-power (U-series) and low-power (Y-series) variants. This adds up to a total of 19 Intel notebook CPU models released in August, and we expect to see a lot of follow-on confusion.

Things get more interesting for the lower-powered Y-series—Ice Lake offers 9W/12W configurable TDP, but Comet Lake undercuts that to 7W/9W. This is already a significant drop in power budget, which Comet Lake takes even further by offering a new Config Down TDP, which is either 4.5W or 5.5W, depending on which model you're looking at.

Conclusions
The low power consumption of Comet Lake's Y-series is interesting, but the 6C/12T i7-0710U is the only really tempting part of its U-series line—and in both cases, we expect that most consumers would be better served with Ice Lake's much higher-performance graphics and RAM.
Assuming pricing is similar, we see the Ice Lake product line as clearly superior to Comet Lake for most consumers.

Berlin: Intel is going hard on pushing its 10th-generation Core processors into next-gen laptops across a smorgasbord of brands.
Acer, Asus, MSI, HP and Razer, are all set to join the likes of Dell and Lenovo in sticking the latest Core chips off the fabrication line into their new and refreshed laptops.

In short, you can expect the Dell Latitude 7400 2-in-1, the HP EliteBook x360 8392-in-1, the aforementioned XPS 13 2-in-1, and Lenovo ThinkPad Carbon X1 to come with Intel's tenth-generation processors.
MSI's Prestige 14 and Prestige 15 are also two machines willing to give Intel's new CPU a go.

But in a nutshell, you can expect to see laptops and 2-in-1 with a performance hike and a good kick in the battery department to deliver machines that might not revolutionise mobile computing, but will certainly see it take another step down the road to delivering performance laptops that don't conk out at the whiff of a demanding tasks.

Intel has launched its first laptop processors, the 10th Gen Core H-Series, that breaks the 5GHz barrier with speeds that range from 2.3GHz to 5.3GHz. It is targeting gamers and content creators. Or those who both play games and upload videos to YouTube — at the same time.

The new Intel Core i9-10980HK processor is the high end of the family, with speeds ranging from 2.4GHz to 5.3GHz. It can run 16 threads across eight cores and is unlocked for overclocking.
He said that more than 30 thin-and-light laptops (many under 20 millimeters thick) are coming from manufacturers using this chip family, and there will be more than 100 laptops coming this year using this platform, starting with the first machines arriving around mid-April.

Neowin: Intel announces 10th-gen mobile processors with over 5GHz Turbo clock speeds

They're from the Comet Lake family, and Intel is promising desktop-level performance.
The CPUs offer all of the perks that you'd normally expect from Intel's latest CPUs as well, such as Wi-Fi 6, Thunderbolt 3 support, Optane memory H10, and more. They also gain support for DDR4-2933 memory.

At the top of the lineup is the Core i9-10980HK, an octa-core processor with 16 threads that's unlocked for overclocking.
There are two other Core i7 models, the Core i7-10850H and Core i7-10750H, both of which are hexa-core with 12 threads. They both max out at 5.1GHz and 5GHz, respectively, but the Core i7-10850H is partially unlocked.
At the end of the lineup, there's the Core i5-10400H and Core i5-10300H, both of which are still quad-core with eight threads.
