Intel announced this week that it's discontinuing its Kaby Lake-G chips. The last ones will ship at the end of July next year, and Intel has various dates marked between now and then to phase out the product family.

Kaby Lake-G was a somewhat unique product, as the CPU was bundled with AMD Radeon RX Vega discrete graphics on the die. The CPU portion of the chip was similar to Intel's seventh-generation 'Kaby Lake H' family, so the main difference is that it was bundled with dedicated graphics, rather than OEMs having to include a separate GPU.

That allowed for slimmer and lighter form factors, even with a TDP between 65W and 100W.
The company is working on its own discrete graphics, so it's possible that someday, we'll see a similar product with dedicated Intel graphics.

Techspot: Kaby Lake-G reaches end-of-life, ending Intel and AMD's once unfathomable partnership

In context: In 2017 Intel made waves by announcing an unlikely collaboration with rival AMD to bring a new mobile chip to market. The resulting CPU would arrive in the form of Kaby Lake-G, with sights firmly set on disrupting the mobile GPU market Nvidia had dominated for so long. Intel also sought to inspire new devices with thinner and smaller footprints. From Intel's vantage point, using G-series chips would allow OEMs to theoretically save space with smaller motherboard designs by forgoing larger dGPU solutions.

Despite the fanfare, Intel's Kaby Lake-G suffered from lack of adoption among OEMs.
Additionally, the 65W and 100W TDPs seemingly limited what devices the chips could land in.

I came this -=>||<=- close to buying into these. But felt custom and niche and smelled too much of a one-off.. So no. I see that I was right.

Perhaps when intel figures out how to market and actually sell high-performance consumer graphics I'll take another look at the concept.

AMD ends Radeon driver support for Intel's Kaby Lake G chips

At CES 2018, Intel revealed an interesting new CPU that for the first time, included dedicated graphics on the die. Called Kaby Lake G and from the eighth-gen family, these were seventh-gen H-series CPUs but with added AMD Radeon graphics. The product was fairly short-lived, with Intel discontinuing the family of chips last October.

Now, it seems that AMD has ended support for the Radeon graphics included on the chips, as spotted in a report from Tom's Hardware. Intel had actually promised five years of support for Kaby Lake G, and it seems that it's not going to deliver on that. According to the report, you can't even get a driver update to support the Windows 10 May 2020 Update.

To be clear, there were only a handful of products that ever used Kaby Lake G, such as Intel's NUC 8 Extreme Mini PCs, which Intel says it's trying to bring back support for, along with HP's Spectre x360 15 and Dell's XPS 15 2-in-1.
The whole idea was that by putting dedicated graphics on the die, it would allow for thinner and lighter form factors that don't sacrifice power. In fact, the Dell XPS 15 2-in-1, is the only XPS 15 convertible that was ever made.

And judging by the amount of consumer interest and posts in this thread - it's obviously a stillborn product.
