    Thanks Meneer! ;)

If you've got any other Linux links, could you post them here, or PM them to me?

    Tevreden en dank u :)

Ps. -or- Do you have any suggested read material for a Linux newbie? (security wise especially - but certainly not limited to it). ;) Please & Thanks again. :)

Of course there the classic comparative review of Windows 2000 vs linux

    Then some serious security business:
Most of the bigger distro's have their own security subsite, so just check the site. Security on linux is quite easy once you got the basics on file permissions (lots easier than windows).

NSA SE-linux project about hardening your linux box for very secret environments. Well, you can do it for yourself too. Fedore Core 3 comes SElinux enabled.

Bastille linux project also about hardening, makes a very good firewall platform.

Some more security at http://www.linux-sec.net/ and http://www.linuxexposed.com/

    A link for beginners: http://www.linux.ie/newusers/beginners-linux-guide/

The current distro's are very suitable for beginners, they all have a full graphical user interface. The only problem that may arise is when you need to use a command shell (bash). The shell syntax can be hard, but if you know MS Dos (cmd) youĺl manage. The last link can help using the command line tools.
As a beginner you better just install linux and find your way in the user forums :)

    Thanks BigC, ;)

    I'd really like 10.1, if I can't DL it ... I'll PM you, though.

If I do manage to DL 10.1 successfully, I'll send you a copy if you like. ;)

I'm gonna try to DL it one more time from a FTP, then I'll install BitTorrent a give it a go at DL'ing it.

Is that where you purchased your CD's? Are they reliable? ... at least if you spend over twenty bucks you get free shipping. :D

I have ordered a few items here but the one I used the most is no longer online :( I always got what I ordered at this site, I guess that is a good sign.

LOL ... It is nice isn't it. :)

    @ BigC

Well my friend, I finally managed to DL both Mandrake 10.1 & SuSE 9.2 (Both DVD iso's 2.02GB and 3.13 GB respectively) ... I haven/t yet confirmed that both images are flaw free, although they probably are. The offer stands if you would like copies, either PM or Email me the particulars.

I tried installing Fedora this afternoon but it failed, couldn't create an ext3 partition. I have some issue with my two harddisks especially with the partitions. I am aware of this already for a longer time but now it tricked me. My system boots up from the fourth primary master. I removed physically the first primary master and disabled the fourth in the bios. Set the first to auto and my machine refused to boot, it didn't see any harddisk at all. Must be something with my MBR i think, hmmm difficult stuff to me. I changed the bios again and connected the HD again and everything workd fine with XP2. Keep you informed :doubt:
