A Reddit user reports that his Google Nest Hub started showing him the video feed from the home surveillance cameras of random Xiaomi Mijia users after he attempted to access his own newly purchased Xiaomi camera.

Full statement from Xiaomi
Overnight we've received the following statement from Xiaomi that confirms they have identified and fixed the problem. It appears that some sort of cache update is the root cause, and while Xiaomi devs work on ensuring this won't happen again, the service will remain suspended.

[...] Our team has since acted immediately to solve the issue and it is now fixed. Upon investigation, we have found out the issue was caused by a cache update on December 26, 2019, which was designed to improve camera streaming quality. [...]
We have also found 1044 users were with such integrations and only a few with extremely poor network conditions might be affected. This issue will not happen if the camera is linked to the Xiaomi’s Mi Home app.

Xiaomi has communicated and fixed this issue with Google, and has also suspended this service until the root cause has been completely solved, to ensure that such issues will not happen again."

Even my closest family member reminds me that the "smartest" Oprah once informed her millions of fans/followers,
"If your spouse tries to be privacy-smart on the Internet, he/she/it has something to hide from YOU".

(Update: Integration returns) (January 6, 2020)

Xiaomi's Assistant integrations are back online
Following Google's blanket shutdown of the integration between its Assistant devices and all Xiaomi smart home products, it's now back up and running for everything but the camera that caused the problem in the first place. After reports from users including our own staff indicated that things were back to normal, Xiaomi confirmed to us that:

"...devices other than the camera product are now available on Google Nest Hub."
Since the camera is still absent, this likely means Xiaomi is continuing its investigation into what happened. We can expect it to be fully functional again once Xiaomi and Google can be sure something like this won't happen again.

According to a Xiaomi spokesperson that reached out to 9to5Google, the company has resolved the root cause of a bug that allowed at least one user to view security footage that never should have been visible on their device. As of January 16, Google Assistant and Nest integration has been restored to Xiaomi’s Mi security cameras.
