Actually if you think for how long you are using internet 5,10......& how many times the system was infected, for some no infection & for some 1,2.. infection & that too not major infection. So looking into all this sometimes it led me to think that a good FW & a good AV is enough instead of all the hassles like HIPS, blah, blah..... Yes there are malwares out there increasing every sec but its not like you will boot the system & get infected.

Previously I use to also change the security softwares often. Now from 6-7 months, I am running MSE & Windows Firewall & no infection yet. I am using internet from the past 10 years & all the years I have used only FW & AV & no infection yet. So I think the malwares are there increasing rapidly but infection atleast for home user are rare & all these security things have hyped a lot. Now every security vendor into HIPS, Sandbox, Intelligent Scan, Advanced Protection, Ultra Scan, Dog Code, Cat Code, Mouse Code, dont know what what code.....

Seriously I think a home user is well protected with good basic security like FW & AV & to feel little confident little additional security can be added & Common Sense. These are just my thoughts based on my & my frds & close ones personal experiences.

    Thanxx

I never used one and I will probably never will. I'm not contesting their efficiency in doing what are they trying to do (i.e. keeping the user from clicking on malware/bad links), I'm merely state that using common sense and intelligent browsing alongside other security measures is enough for me.

Don't want to stray too off topic here so i would suggest looking through the virtualization section.

My point is to be "Pro-Active" not "Re-Active"!

I have been hit by these "Fake Security" malware 3 times (trialing 2 different antiviruses - 1 with web scanner, 1 without) and not a peep from them each time). In the first instance i was running firefox and was amazed how quickly this malware took over. The other 2 using Chrome which seemed to stop them by itself. However, in all cases, there was no worries because i was running virtualized and had recent images to fall back on. And an image will "clean" better than any av program ever will ;)

I look at an antivirus as an "opinion" and that's about it! Don't rely on it for protection :cautious:
