Ah, I think it was posted in April, before the 15th, so I assumed it was the 15th of April, not May. ;)

Trjam said he doesn't understand people being excited about the beta(maybe interested is a better word) but there haven't been any real, professional tests, and 2.0 has the new engine and other improvements so detection will be better and it is really light software :) Only time will tell..

I looked it up and it was posted the 30th of April ;)

If they make folks pay for ImProt, there is a possibility that it will fail, as Brocke has predicted.

On the other hand, if ImProt remains totally free, there is a near-CERTAINTY that it will fail. (IMO, of course.)

There is plenty of room for another *good NON-free security app.* I hope that ImProt will be one.

P.S. I have noted a strange trend. Namely, it sometimes seems to me that users of free security products are extremely demanding, and often ungrateful. But perhaps I am seeing things the wrong way. What do you think?

I certainly wouldn't pay for it. I am testing it ATM on many boxes (the ClamAV clone which has a better tray icon :D) b/c it's very light and it's free and it doesn't seem to conflict with anything else. But to pay for it, well no - cloud technology is not something I'd rely on. Also, they kinda need to have lot of users (the nature of this cloud collective "intelligence).

So, make it paid and abandon free version altogether doesn't seem to be a viable business model to me at all.

Yes, making it paid or not are both risky, but remember there will be 2 versions:
A free version like the product is now which is more meant as a 2nd opinion realtime program.
The paid version which is going to be more like an stand alone av and probably won't do side-by-side installs next to another av.
But as far as I know, this two versions plan isn't definitive/final.

EDIT: this is also just for Immunet products, while ClamAV for Windows and ImProt are currently the same they are going in their own directions, ClamAV will still also get the same 2.0 release(at least the same as free version, I don't know if the paid version will already be in 2.0) but after that the products will maybe share some technology but for the rest they will be different products.

From Immunet Community News email (received 30th April):
"If you are interested in volunteering in the Immunet Protect Free and Plus
beta test, please email Alfred directly, and provide your name and telephone
    contact information".
    Hope this helps.

I've noticed the same thing. It appears that users of free products are sometimes way more 'high maintenance' ,impatient and less tolerant of issues than those that have bought a product for big money.:doubt:

I will just try to answer some of your questions.

It was dated to th 15 April but some minor problems by getting the product out of the door happens. The new release date is set withing the next 2 weeks (expect the 15 may)

A paid version will be available called "Immunet protect plus" but immunet protect will remain free. The different between those two products is that immunet protect have a extra engine which works with help of offline signatures.

Alfred can be mailed at: alfred@immunet.com

Hmm, the last comment gave me pause. I had to think about it for a sec. I think the vast majority of users who use free software (or otherwise) are silent. They either love or hate your software in silence. For 99% of the users out there they see software as something with innate utility value and it's not something they would generally care enough to comment on. You are then left with a very small minority who care enough to comment, or participate in forums, like this one.

To illustrate my point, between AVG, Avira and Avast I suspect they have north of 100 million people who have downloaded their software. Yet, on their forums I suspect very few of those people could be found. On the other hand I am willing to bet most of you are part of more than one AV forum, if not all those above, plus Wilders of course.

I also think people in general are more likely to voice negative commentary than positive and in general I think you will find those same people tend to be critical frequently in online forums. Such is my experience in any event.

    Best,
    al

Eh... Want to follow the Avira steps in broken beta-testing model here, or what? Noone's keen on giving you a phone number, guys... Noone's even exactly keen on writing emails to you. Stick a webform somewhere and be done with it. KISS.

    :thumbd:

I would agree, Now this I will say or can say for now, as stated 2 versions. I think the way Al is doing it is very comendable. To create a new product and suceed is hard, to create a free and paid product is even more resource consuming. He is very serious about where this product is headed. It is not going to be your typical here today, make a profit and gone tommorow product. He intends to not only compete but set some new examples for others to follow. He is genuine in making sure both products are going to be in the top tier.Tme will tell, but I am onboard because he has sold me. It is getting ready to get interesting around here.;)

As per Lord Raiden's post there was a general call for pre-release testers but it's already filled up. However, any Wilders user is welcome, just mail me at the address above and tell me your from the Wilders Forum and I will get you on the list.

Is this the same thing as ClamAV powered by Immunet?

The 2.0 release of Immunet will have some features not present in Clam AV for Windows. The Clam Windows release will follow in July (maybe June) and will see another release in August/September at which point the Clam AV for Windows and the Immunet lines will diverge a fair bit.
