Comodo Defense+ actually detected the ask toolbar check process . Interesting since they've always bundled with a toolbar before.

That is not true trjam and it's not nice of you to say that about me as I'm in the larger part of the security community as I'm a Global Moderator at Calender of Updates and I have my own opinions, also I'm an ASAP member and adding unwanted toolbars to Applications is frowned upon in the larger security community!

Comodo has removed ASK and Hopsurf from there installers now which is why it has been delisted! But again sorry this is not the place to discuss other products in this thread as it's about Immunet Protect 2.0!

Who knew? According to the PC Magazine review of Immunet Protect...

It’s comforting to know that the approach used by Immunet Protect (and presumably by other anti-malware security vendors) is modeled on the ‘cockroach exterminator business.’ Live and learn....

I never even heard of this site or award, so I doubt it will make a difference. When I get something for free, I can handle having to uncheck a mark during the install. Not really anything to cry over.

If you dont want the ask toolbar uncheck the option... so easy, or maybe not for you.
But its funny to see how a "worker" of prevx get nervous because there is a free product making the competence to prevx :D

Well not only a so called prevx worker... I am concerned too and I know many are.
Because most of the common users follow the default installation and in that way they will install Ask. Why don't they keep it unchecked.?
Believe me I will not suggest Immunet to any common users to extend my community for this reason. I don't want to be bashed later. If I can I will install it mine to their PC.

Immunet Protect 2.0 PLUS has been great so far (with all engines an some exclusions). Going to test out if it actually doesn't interrupt my on-demand scanners.

I'm happy for Immunet I'm just not happy with the ASK Toolbar and that's it, as I said it is frowned upon the the larger security community! This will be my last comment about this subject here but if anyone wants to continue the discussion come on over to the Calender of Updates as there is a long thread about the whole issue with Unwanted add-ons! ;)

    Regards,

    TH

What is so hard to understand? Immunet offers a product for free. They hope to get a little incremental income, and they probably get a small amount from each toolbar install. If you opt out of the toolbar install, I imagine they either get A.) Nothing or B.) Less than if you would have installed it.

Again, if this is the "cost" of getting a program for free, I am all for it.

@clocks: I know what is the logic behing incorporating ASK. I was just stating that it is unwanted that's all.
btw, COU is a well known site to security concerned persons...

Then you are just stating the obvious. I think they already know it is unwanted. Businesses exist to make money, and this is how they partially fund the project. Would you rather they they charge $5 for it? Or add more limitations to it to get you to upgrade to the Pro version?

If given the choice of :

    A. Getting the software for free, but having it bundled with a toolbar
    B. No toolbar but having to pay $5 for it
    C. Still free, no toolbar, but having less options/protection

I will choose option A. any day of the week. I know not everyone will agree, but I think a lot will.

Actually it's possible to choose this one:
    D. Getting the software for free, and NOT having it bundled with a toolbar.

I think there is nothing to dicuss here, if somebody doesnt want the toolbar just dont check the option during the installation.

Stix & stones, TH. Illegitimi non corborundum. :D

TR can get rather too protective when someone has even mild criticism concerning his flavor of the week. BUT his comments can be very insightful & helpful when he isn't in siege mode. Plus he's just ... well... pleasant to have around.

As for IP's toolbar, I have no problem with their need for a bit of income. I just wish IP would make it opt-in instead of opt-out.

People this have gone too far!!

The ask toolbar is installed by default because Immunet need the dollar or two it gives per installation. We in immunet doesn't like it though and it is not here to stay!
Nothing, and I mean nothing is completely free. The Immunet team need to pay the rent, otherwise this project cannot continue. Most Free AV today does (Norton, Webroot ect.) and does this for good reason. Bottom line, we need it and it only takes you 2 seconds to uncheck it during install. This conversation is bordering on ridiculous.

I look at it this way
If my grandmother installs it, she probably won't pay attention and never us it, but Immunet will make a dollar or two on that install.

If any of you guys have another way to earn a couple of money please mail me at: pedersen@immunet.com i would like to hear and discuss the options.

Dont hope I offend any of you by this thread but some of you have gone too far...

You guys are ridiculous. Avast does it, Avira does it, other top notch companies do it and yet you arent complaining about those only Immunet.

So far Immunet hasn't interfered in anything yet, that's great. The full-system scan is taking a lot longer though.. Hope it includes scan exclusions that doesn't affect the protection in the next version.
