AFAIK Immunet has it's own, non-ClamAV, cloud.

    Looks like you are right.. It's own cloud, with ClamAV used in Offline mode. From the wiki;

Currently at version 3.0, Immunet Free offers basic protection based upon the virus definitions in the cloud, as well as an option to include the ClamAV off-line virus definitions for use when not connected to the Internet. The free version is advised to be used alongside another AV product from the list.

By default, the ClamAV engines are disabled.
I don't recommend enabling them anyway, as they're very slow, have lots of FPs, and the method to report them is to say the least very tedious and discouraging.
Furthermore I read somewhere that they possibly don't even processing the reports... (ClamAV, not Immunet)

Many many many thanks to all who welcomed me back!

As noted earlier, I have an always-on connection. As a happy user of Im-net-Free, I'm struggling to come up with a reason to buy Im-net. Your comments on this matter would be appreciated.

Hi BG, good to see you surfing again. :)

Honestly, it is a ok product but its detection is no where as good as quite a few other free products. I mean if it were me, I would use Avast with only the file shield install and set to write only. That to me is what you are looking for.

FWIW, I have a PLUS license, but now prefer to use the free version along with MBAM Pro in real-time.

Used alone, I agree it may be somewhat thin, but in combination with other products such as MBAM Pro and MBAE like I do, I think it's pretty enough.

Having run it since v1 and very early versions of 3, in free the only reason to enable Clam is to keep free local defs/sigs updated for times when your computer is off-line, intentionally or otherwise (dog thinks WiFi dipole is a chew toy). And a back-up if the Tetra engine cloud is down .

The Plus adds the Bitdefender engine and defs/sigs locally. I don't remember anymore how often the defs/sigs are updated, the once-every 24-hour way or as-released (several to infinity per day).

As for the cloud, I never determined to, or tired to, find out what for-with their cloud detects - Clam and/or BD with Free and/or Plus.

Plus scored well last month's MRG Effitas Time to Detect Assessment.

    Cheers.

FP's on ClamAV are through the roof.

In just 48 hours of running it on a fairly clean machine I've seen 8 false positives. That's really not acceptable, unfortunately.

Indeed, ClamAV must NOT be enabled.
In the Plus version, I saw updates of the BD engine (Tetra) everyday.

Immunet running great here, once ClamAV was disabled.

False positives were getting out of control. Even Origin game updates were flagged. I don't see ClamAV as being viable until they take false positives seriously.

Nevertheless, I really like Immunet, and seems like it would be a great, light, effective combination with MalwareBytes!

    Hi,

As I understand from experience of others Immunet is quite light on the resources (it feels that way at least). Can you say that both for free (ClamAV disabled) and for paid (with TETRA enabled) versions?

And have you seen some good 3rd party tests/reviews on Immunet? Basically I'd like to know how effective it is in detection as well as removal field.

Currently, I'm considering what to do with my expiring WSA subscription and I'm reviewing and testing various other options.

I've dropped WSA for Immunet on machines, if that's worth anything. Immunet has less 'issues', doesn't have extraneous features, and seems to offer really good protection - and it's free. Immunet is a good WSA replacement IMO.
