OK. Fixed. I put my key in the wrong place. I overwrote John Smith which is commented out instead of putting it below in the uncommented area.
TBWinPE works. Not sure why TBWinRE fails validation. I have tried making an ISO and burning to disc. Same error.
You mean, a USB Flash Drive? Yes, I have tried that and it worked. But I just can't get an ISO or CD to work. I would like to be able to also get a CD working as I have experienced problems in the past booting some computers with USB sticks. By the way. Can recovery media be used on other computers, or only on the computer it was made on? There is something I read on one of the tutorial pages where it seemed to suggest not.
I am just wondering whether the failed data validation message that I am receiving is a false positive. The ISO that I am producing is 308MB and the following hash. MD5: 15178877A5DC162198C4F7F8A71BE766
I think you misunderstood me, Brian. What I meant was: I read a tutorial that said that the boot media you make should only be used on that computer. Maybe it causes issues if you try and run it on a computer that the boot media was not made on. Regarding TPWinRE. Can I just burn the ISO and try and see if it works even though it fails to validate? The validation process does not even start, so I suspect that it still may be OK.
I did misunderstand and you are correct. The UFD I made on my desktop will load on my wife's laptop but has no mouse support. It will work from the keyboard. I need a UFD made on my wife's laptop for mouse support. Try burning the ISO to a CD. See if it works.
just use Image for Linux and burn that to a CD or a USB key. try the demo for that. that's as simple as it gets.
Stigg, Have you run TBWinRE.cmd more than once? Have you been running makedisk.exe multiple times after using a single run of TBWinRE.cmd? Usually that is OK but I'm curious.
Like moontan said, run makedisk.exe and create a boot USB for IFL. It does not depend on the specific hardware of the computer from which you made the boot USB. It basically boots on every other computer. No need to go through the hassle of creating PE/RE based boot USB. Try it and you'll know.
So, do you guys think IML is the best option out of them all? I have tried everything to get TBWinRE working. Including everything on this page.
I've never seen that MakeDisk error when creating any TBWinRE/PE ISO files (and I've created many of them). Are you running TBWinRE from the installed path (C:\Program Files (x86)\TeraByte Unlimited\Image for Windows\V2\tbwinre) or from a custom location (E:\tbwinre, for example)? What are the contents of the ISO folder? I wonder if there's anything odd in there. If you post a directory listing I'll take a look at it. You can run "dir /s" at the Command Prompt and save it to a file. For example: dir /s "e:\tbwinre\iso" > e:\tbwinre_iso_contents.txt Do the following files exist in the TBWinRE folder: efisys.bin (1.40MB) and etfsboot.com (4.00KB) Also, if you have the output of the TBWinRE script it may help to see it. You can copy it from the Command Prompt window and paste it into Notepad.
I installed to the default paths as I am aware that some programs don't like their paths being altered. The strange thing is that the USB stick completed successfully. Both efisys.bin and etfsboot.com exist, but etfsboot.com is 0 KB. ISO folder contents below. http://oi57.tinypic.com/14d2fsz.jpg
Stigg, MudCrab needs... dir /s "e:\tbwinre\iso" > e:\tbwinre_iso_contents.txt See his post above. For "e:\tbwinre\iso" substitute your path. As you mentioned default it is probably... "C:\Program Files (x86)\TeraByte Unlimited\Image for Windows\V2\tbwinre\iso" Then e:\tbwinre_iso_contents.txt would become... c:\tbwinre_iso_contents.txt
Sorry, but I can't get that to work. I have tried different syntax variations without luck. If someone could type the full exact thing or post it in a text file, then maybe I can get it. The program is in the default path.
Try this. Right click the Start button, click Command Prompt (Admin) With your mouse, Copy and Paste this into the Command window... dir /s "C:\Program Files (x86)\TeraByte Unlimited\Image for Windows\V2\tbwinre\iso" > c:\tbwinre_iso_contents.txt Press Enter. A text file called tbwinre_iso_contents.txt will be created in the C: drive. Upload the text file to your post. Do you have 64-bit Windows?
Hi Brian. You cannot paste into command prompts. Edit: Sorry, I was using keyboard. I am running Windows 8.1 Update 1 64-bit.
I must be magic. But seriously, sweep the above text, right click and click Copy. Click in the Command Window. Right click and click Paste.
