sorry guys quick question, do you still need to boot to IFD to be able to recovery a image, or IFW can restore a C drive image from windows, like you select restore image then IFW reboot and start restore automatic thanks in advanced
mata7, Long time no see. Nothing has changed. You can restore a TeraByte image using... IFL boot disk IFD boot disk IFW in TBWinRE/PE boot disk IFW in any WinPE boot disk or without a boot disk (automatic, initiated from Windows) IFL via bootfile IFD via bootfile IFW in TBWinRE/PE via bootfile IFD via BIBM BootNow IFL partition via BIBM BootNow IFW in TBWinRE/PE partition via BIBM BootNow You can restore an image to a remote networked computer using Sysinternals' psexec.exe. (automatic or manual) And probably other ways which I may recall later.
hey Brian how are you, thank you very much you always ready to help, of all that options that you mention, what would be the closed to IFW reboot and start restore automatic thanks in advanced
mata7, I recall you were doing IFD automatic restores with bootfile. You can do the "same thing", using bootfile with IFW. See... http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/howto/tbwinre_tutorial.htm Remember, when you run the .bin file it MUST be on HD0.
Version 2.96 - May 22, 2015 Added /nowait option (must be first) to allow multiple instances (special use). Changed installer for new installs to ask if simple operations should be used. Added copy to simple operations. Added new VSS options and changed defaults. Other potential changes, updates and enhancements.
I would 'guess' that there will be a Version 3.X of Image for Windows/Image for DOS/Image for Linux by around the end of the year.
Hmm... I guess not. From a message among David F. (Terabyte Unlimited) and me, dated back to 08/30/2013: So most likely it will go from 2.99 to 2.100
How do they make money by keeping the same major version number? I have been having free update from 2008 when I bought v2 version of IFL. IFL is the only couple of software purchases I've made over the past decade or so for personal use. I'll be happy to renew my IFL licences if they roll out a v3 after v2.99.
Don't know how they make it, but one thing is sure: they still making money. Despite what David F. told me they can change their mind regard versioning their products. I would like to see a new 3.x version as well but they would need to do a major upgrade even a change in the GUI, who knows.
is it possible to add IFW to YUMI? if so is it easy, difficult etc? (i rather make an image from a partition that is not in use) also, opinions on Bootitbaremetal? is it worth getting? i would like to be able to easily add any flavor of Windows or Linux without having to learn all kinds of complex stuff. This is 2015 and seems like i should be able to add/delete OS much like files or folders. (Thats the kind of program i'm looking for.)
Yes. Add the TBWinRE/PE iso. BIBM is my favourite and most used app. It can do so many things including multi-boot up to 200 OS from a single HD. But it has a steep learning curve and takes months to master so if you take the approach of "without having to learn all kinds of complex stuff" then it might not suit you.
Further, besides adding drivers to TBWinRE in the documented way, you can add a bunch of stuff to TBWinRE like hex editors, a file manager, Sysinternals tools, WinRAR, TrueCrypt, etc to make it a more useful and friendly disaster recovery tool. In a nutshell: Code: 1. Add additional Menu_Items to TBLauncher.ini and update ItemCount. I put all my additional tools in a folder "Tools", which I drag into the TBWinRE folder, and an example Menu_Item is: [Menu_Item_12] Name=WinRAR Path=%SystemDrive%\Tools\WinRAR\WinRAR.exe WorkingDir= Parameters= Icon=0 2. In TBWinRe.cmd, I add the following after the "Add TBOSDT" section: :: Add Tools :: --------------------- echo Adding Tools... if not exist "mount\Tools" md "mount\Tools" robocopy Tools mount\Tools /S > nul I also add some registry items for wxHexEditor earlier in TBWinRE.cmd to set its position and size as I like it, e.g. here's the height setting: reg add "HKLM\TBWINPE_DEFAULT\Software\wxHexEditor" /v ScreenH /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000270 /f > nul And that really is about it. To run command line programs, or more generally, programs I didn't add to the menu, I open a command shell, cd to Tools, and type their names. I do this all in a 32-bit Windows 8.1 VM, and so I do need to restrict myself to 32 bit programs. I add the resulting .iso to YUMI as an "Unlisted ISO (Grub)". One thing about YUMI is that when you boot it and navigate amongst its distro menu, the "step back" function doesn't work if you've formatted the flash drive with Windows. YUMI really wants there to be a partition table, but Windows just creates a Volume taking up the whole drive when it formats a USB stick.
I don't use YUMI as I prefer using the TBWinRE/PE (32 and 64-bit versions) from its own flash drive or from a HD partition. As you have done with WinRAR, I've added a file manager which makes browsing partitions easier. I use A43 FileManagerPE.
Thanks. It doesn't look like A43 FileManagerPE is available anymore. Edit... I just tried XYplorer. It runs in my 64-bit Win8 but not in my 64-bit TBWinPE.
thanks for this. i'll have to think about it. looks like 3 machines per license, so pretty fair deal. thanks. over my head though.
I am considering purchasing a Windows 8.1 Tablet in the near future. Are there any special IFL Image Restore Settings/Instructions? The Windows Tablet under consideration: ASUS VivoTab 8 M81C-B1-MSBK Thanks in Advance.
Just make sure you have enough USB ports to be able to do an emergency restore (need a CD/DVD-ROM, mouse/keyboard, etc.) My 1-port very strange BiOS UEFI tablet was a PITA to get to recognize external devices and use what was needed to get through the menus.
